S3 and Glacier
This is a presentation that I gave at the AWS Meetup in Ann Arbor, Michigan back in January. It recounts some experiences that I had while working on a project with RightBrain Networks that involved moving millions of small files around between S3, Glacier and an NFS NAS volume. A good time was had by all.

Amazon S3 Integration
This webinar previewed FileCatalyst 3.5's new integration with Amazon S3. It demonstrated how FileCatalyst can now treat S3 storage as a file system, allowing files to be streamed directly to S3 without first being cached locally. This is done through Java NIO.2 and Amazon's SDK. The webinar showed a demo and discussed how S3 buckets/folders can be integrated and accessed, as well as ways to connect and improve performance, such as using enhanced networking on certain EC2 instance types. Future plans include finalizing performance optimization and integrating additional file systems and object stores.

2016 Utah Cloud Summit: RDS
RDS provides a managed relational database service that allows customers to focus on applications rather than database administration. New features include increased storage and IOPS limits, HIPAA eligibility for some databases, and support for MariaDB. Amazon Aurora is a MySQL-compatible database designed for high performance, availability, and scalability. It uses 6 copies of data across 3 availability zones and provides up to 64TB of storage. Getting started with S3
Amazon S3 is an object storage service that provides scalable storage for data. It consists of buckets which contain objects. Objects are stored in regions and availability zones for high availability and durability. Access is private by default but can be controlled through access control lists and policies. Different storage classes exist for different access needs, including standard, infrequent access, and glacier. Life cycle rules can transition objects between classes. Versioning and cross-region replication provide redundancy. Encryption options protect data security. S3 can also host static websites and is commonly used for media files, archives, logs, backups, and static websites.
Cloud Overview
This document provides an overview of cloud computing and discusses an example application of cloud bursting. It defines essential cloud computing characteristics like on-demand self-service and measured service. The document also describes different cloud computing models like Infrastructure as a Service and Platform as a Service. Adam's slides from his talk at the CloudStack European User group meetup, March 13, London. To provide tighter integration between the S3 compatible object store and CloudStack, Cloudian has developed a connector to allow users and their applications to utilize the object store directly from within the CloudStack platform in a single sign-on manner with self-service provisioning. Additionally, CloudStack templates and snapshots are centrally stored within the object store and managed through the CloudStack service. The object store offers protection of these templates and snapshots across data centres using replication or erasure coding.

Getting started with S3
Amazon S3 is an object storage service that provides scalable storage for data. It consists of buckets which contain objects. Objects are stored in regions and availability zones for high availability and durability. Access is private by default but can be controlled through access control lists and policies. Different storage classes exist for different access needs, including standard, infrequent access, and glacier. Life cycle rules can transition objects between classes. Versioning and cross-region replication provide redundancy. Encryption options protect data security. S3 can also host static websites and is commonly used for media files, archives, logs, backups, and static websites.
