Perl and Amazon Web Services
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s biggest cloud provider, pioneering the implementation of cloud services like infrastructure-as-a-service (IaaS) and function-as-a-Service (FaaS). But how does Perl fit into the world of AWS?
IaaS is the provisioning of virtualized computing resources. In the case of AWS, the most fundamental IaaS resource is the Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2), it provides generic computer virtualization. When using EC2 you will boot an Amazon Machine Image (AMI) to create a running machine, called an instance. Amazon maintains an AMI called Amazon Linux 2, it does not have Perl installed, however installing Perl is straightforward. You can even create your own AMI with a pre-installed Perl.
FaaS is the provisioning of a well-defined execution environment, where you can run and manage application functionality, without having to think about infrastructure. The AWS FaaS offering is called AWS Lambda. AWS Lambda natively supports code written in Java, Go, PowerShell, Node.js, C#, Python, and Ruby. However, it also provides an HTTP API for custom runtimes, making it possible to write AWS Lambdas in any programming language, including Perl, if you define a corresponding runtime.

DORMA Group and Kaba Group, merged to form dorma+kaba in September 2015. The merger has created one of the top three companies in the global market for security and access solutions, with pro forma sales of more than CHF 2 billion and around 16,000 employees. dorma+kaba is active in over 50 countries and has a presence, through both production sites and distribution and service offices, in all relevant markets. In this presentation, you will take part of the journey of how dorma+kaba is leveraring Cloud Foundry for their access control as a service "exivo" and how they deploy on it.
Cloud Foundry makes it exceptionally simple to deploy and manage applications with simple commands like 'cf push'. However, as your application grows in complexity and the number of deployed components explodes it becomes difficult to keep an overview of the required services and bindings. Many organisations, like dorma+kaba, face these challenges sooner or later, especially with microservices architecture. Starting from the naive idea of automating deployments using shell scripts wrapping the Cloud Foundry cli, the pitfalls encountered with this approach, and the evolution towards sophisticated and reliable tooling. Finally dorma+kaba built their open framework to deploy 80+ applications through multiple deployment stages including production and open sourced it during the CF Summit

IDI 2020 - Containers Meet Serverless
Containers have been a driving force in this industry for the last 5+ years. In the meanwhile we have seen the raise of other compute patterns, such as serverless. 2020 seems to be the year where the line between containers and serverless starts to blurry. We are seeing the raise of container serverless platforms (e.g. AWS Fargate) as well as the raise of higher order abstractions above container platforms (e.g. OpenFaaS, ECS CLI v2, …) that allows developers to focus on their code instead of managing containers. In this session we will discuss how the serverless benefits are starting to permeate into the container ecosystem and we will provide real life examples of how some AWS and OSS technologies can be used to abstract and remove part of the undifferentiated heavy lifting developers often need to take care of.
Optimizing CakePHP 2.x Apps

At this joint NYC Cloud Foundry and NY PHP meetup, we'll discuss the shift to Platform-as-a-Service and what it means for PHP development on the cloud.
First, we'll take a look at the "traditional" cloud Infrastructure-as-a-Service (virtual servers and disks) model and describe how Platform-as-a-Service builds upon it to provide the runtimes and data services for hosting PHP applications.
We'll then demonstrate how a PHP developer can use buildpacks and services within a Cloud Foundry PaaS to deploy scalable and resilient apps to his or her cloud of choice.
Along the way we'll compare the variety of buildpacks available to PHP developers, show techniques for binding to services, and highlight best practices for creating born-on-the-cloud apps based on a microservices architecture.

Deployment with capifony
Capifony is a deployment tool for Symfony applications that works with Capistrano. It provides a predefined workflow for deploying applications to different stages like production and staging. It allows rollback to previous releases, integration of database migrations, and easy transfer of databases between environments. While Capifony is now deprecated due to the new Capistrano/Symfony extension, Capistrano remains a popular remote server automation and deployment tool for Ruby applications.

We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.

The introduction of DLAU and the CCB & CCX licensing model caused quite a stir in the HCL community. As a Notes and Domino customer, you may have faced challenges with unexpected user counts and license costs. You probably have questions on how this new licensing approach works and how to benefit from it. Most importantly, you likely have budget constraints and want to save money where possible. Removing Uninteresting Bytes in Software Fuzzing
Imagine a world where software fuzzing, the process of mutating bytes in test seeds to uncover hidden and erroneous program behaviors, becomes faster and more effective. A lot depends on the initial seeds, which can significantly dictate the trajectory of a fuzzing campaign, particularly in terms of how long it takes to uncover interesting behaviour in your code. We introduce DIAR, a technique designed to speedup fuzzing campaigns by pinpointing and eliminating those uninteresting bytes in the seeds. Picture this: instead of wasting valuable resources on meaningless mutations in large, bloated seeds, DIAR removes the unnecessary bytes, streamlining the entire process.
In this work, we equipped AFL, a popular fuzzer, with DIAR and examined two critical Linux libraries -- Libxml's xmllint, a tool for parsing xml documents, and Binutil's readelf, an essential debugging and security analysis command-line tool used to display detailed information about ELF (Executable and Linkable Format). Our preliminary results show that AFL+DIAR does not only discover new paths more quickly but also achieves higher coverage overall. This work thus showcases how starting with lean and optimized seeds can lead to faster, more comprehensive fuzzing campaigns -- and DIAR helps you find such seeds.
