What is cloud computing?
• The scalable hardware and software is what we will call a Cloud.
• When a Cloud is made available to the general public, we call it a Public Cloud.
This often means that one can access a cloud for free or in a pay-as-you-go
manner.
• The service being sold is Utility Computing.

Cloud Services
Software as a Service (SaaS)
• Cloud application services or “Software as a Service” (SaaS) are probably the
most popular form of cloud computing and are easy to use.
Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS)
• Cloud infrastructure services, known as “Infrastructure as a Service” (IaaS),
deliver computer infrastructure (such as a platform virtualization environment),
storage, and networking.
Platform as a Service (PaaS)
• The most complex of the three, cloud platform services or “Platform as a
Service” (PaaS) deliver computational resources through a platform.
