CLIMATE CHANGE
EFFECTS OFCLIMATE CHANGE ON CHEMICALS
WHAT IS CLIMATE CHANGE?
Climate change is the change in
the world’s climate due to
chemicals.
It’s source is gases such as CO2,
CH4, CFC, O3
• Today, one of the most important problems affecting all humanity is
climate change. There are many factors that cause climate change.
The most important reason underlying these factors is the life style of
human beings and human beings themselves.
• The World, has experienced a lot of climatic changes throught its
history. These changes have been steady and slow. But with the
industrial revolution, this stability and order broke down and entered
into a process called climate change. Indeed, climate change may
directly or indirectly affect agriculture, forests, vegetation, fresh water
resources, sea levels, energy, human health and biodiversity in several
ways.
EFFECTS OF CLIMATE CHANGE
Climate change has many negative effects. The most important effect is
temperature increase.
1. Temperature rise has irreversible effects on the World.
2. Harms the ecosystem
3. Increases the water level
4. Changes the acidic rate of the oceans
5. Negatively affects all kinds of human activities
In long term climate change it is expected to cause stress on water
and other resources, badlands, desertification, proliferation of pests,
diseases in agricultural crops, and the destruction of coastal
ecosystems by sea levels rising.
As a result of global climate change, farmers had to use more
chemicals when growing agricultural products. Because the products
did not adapt to the change and farmers needed too many chemicals
to keep them alive. Animals and humans who eat plants that are
exposed to too many chemicals are also adversely affected. Because
of climate change, people got sick more and therefore drug use
increased.
oIf we can raise awareness of the links between climate and
chemicals and their impact on human health, greater
support and value will be given to green chemistry as an
integral part of addressing our climate crisis. This will
simultaneously mean accelerated climate change mitigation
and improvements in both health and productivity.
GREENHOUSE GASES
• Along with carbon dioxide, water vapor, methane, nitrous oxide
(nitrogen oxide) and ozone gas are also greenhouse gases.
Greenhouse gases prevent the world's heat from escaping into space,
making our world habitable. This heat retention phenomenon is
called the greenhouse effect.
• In the past centuries people have used a lot of coal, oil and gasoline in
factories, cars, planes and trains. Consumption of these fossil fuels
causes carbon dioxide emission. The mixing of so much carbon
dioxide with the earth's atmosphere also increases the temperature
of the earth. Likewise, if we continue to produce carbon dioxide, our
world will get warmer day by day .
CARBON FOOTPRINT
Each individual causes a different
amount of carbon emission depending
on where they live and their lifestyle.
Our carbon footprint is different
according to the type of food we eat,
the mode of transportation and our
electricity consumption. For example,
the gasoline we burn while driving, the
energy we use while heating the house,
and the production process of the food
we eat cause a certain amount of
carbon dioxide emission.

CHEMICALS
Effects of climate change
on chemicals
Medicinal plants are one of the most important thing to
human livelihood.
These plants are used in medicine. Climate change affects
these plants. Cause of their content change; products which
include medicinal plants can’t be produced anymore.
The chemical structure of seafood affected
by climate change deteriorates.
So human health may deteriorate.
Also factories using seafood are economically affected
• Climate change is a problem of our age and
climate change effects chemicals around the
world like many things.
•-- Climate change causes increase of
temperature. Because of this temperature rise
chemicals evaporatein and mix into the air.
Plants (fruit and vegetables) suck this chemicals
by photosynthesis. People who eat them take
the chemicals into their bodies.
• --Chemicals released into the air with climate
change poison our forests, which causes a
decrease in oxygen. While the oxygen was
replaced by harmful gases, the world remains
without oxygen. This means that vital rights for
livings are in danger of being destroyed in the
future.
•-- Some acids can be given as examples of
chemicals affected by climate change: the
ozone layer is damaged by the dissolution
of the hydrochloric acid in the atmosphere
as a result of high temperatures, and as a
result, the quality of life of all living things
decreases. Because of climate change,
glaciers melt and water levels rise,
resulting in damage to agricultural areas.
Detergents mix into the sea with the water
in the sinks and harm sea creatures with it.
•-- A carbon footprint is the total greenhouse
gas (GHG) emissions caused by an
individual, event, organization.Each
individual causes a different amount of
carbon emission according to where the live
and their lifestyle.
• The higher the temperature, the more we are expossed to toxic
chemicals. When the temperature rises the chemials evaporate and
mix into the air. When we breathe this air the chemicals enter our
body.
• Toxic gases from fires, factory chimneys and vehicles can mix into the
air and damage the ozone layer. Chemical products pollute the air and
affect the lungs badly.
• Chemicals emitted by factory farming damage the world by causing
greenhouse gases. A lot of energy is required for factory farming.
According to a study published by The Royal Society; feed is the
dominant energy user, taking around 75% of the total energy
required. The rest is needed for factors such as heating, lightning and
ventilation.
• Carbon dioxide is one of the gases that cause greenhouse effect. 37%
methane gas and 65% nitrogene also create a greenhouse effect. Both
gases are more efficient than carbon dioxide.
• There are several ways to combat climate change by reducing its
carbon footprint. Some of these ways;
• 1. Using recyclable items
• 2. Less electricity usage
• 3. Using public transport
