This document outlines the plan for a CLIL unit on healthy habits for physical education. It includes 6 steps: 1) posing the driving question; 2) previewing unit content; 3) identifying easiest and hardest sections; 4) outlining relevant laws and competencies; 5) proposing connected content from other subjects; 6) including key soft skills. The unit will focus on balance, nutrition, rest, relaxation, and breathing. It will require students to calculate health factors and connect content to biology, English, and mathematics. Soft skills like growth mindset, teamwork, and communication will also be emphasized.

The last decree we must follow is: DECRET 187/2015, de 25 d'agost, d'ordenació dels
ensenyaments de l'educació secundària obligatòria. DOGC núm. 6945 – 28.8.201.
Physical Education has its own document related to competences in which all contents are
organized by dimensions. The dimension we must follow for these unit is:

fitness related to health. Take part on a physical activity which can improve each student’s
fitness during adolescence a so on.
• Competence 2. Value the effects of an active life stile in which healthy habits are integrated.
Beneficial and harmful effects on health that can occur in different life stiles.
Contents and assessment criteria are available as well.
Step 5: Content
Which interdisciplinary subjects could be connected to in this unit? Why and how?
Mathematics. We need to know how to calculate some parameters that affect our body
when we practice physical activity. We must understand that weight control is a basic
habit and so we need to deal with metabolic aspects.
Biology. We must know our body, how it works to get the energy, the oxygen… How
blood goes over the different organs and which muscles and bones participate in every
movement.
English. To work with new vocabulary and expressions related to the unit.
The way to work connected could be by project based learning, competency activities
and cooperative work. All the items of the unit could be studied in an integrated and
significant learning way.
Steps 6: Soft Skills.
I will include these soft skills in my unit plan.(http://bemycareercoach.com/soft-
skills/list-soft-skills.html)
1. Growth mindset. Looking at any situation, especially difficult situations,
as an opportunity for you to learn, grow, and change for the better. Focusing
your attention on improving yourself instead of changing others or blaming
anyone.
2. Self-confidence. Believing in yourself and your ability to accomplish
anything. Knowing that all you need is within you now. “Those who believe in
themselves have access to unlimited power” (Wisdom of Kung Fu Panda)
3. Stress management. Being able to stay healthy, calm, and balanced in any
challenging situations. Knowing how to reduce your stress level will increase your
productivity, prepare you for new challenges and supports your physical and
emotional health, all of which you need for a fulfilling, successful career.
4. Resilience. Being able to bounce back after a disappointment or set back,
big or small, and continue to move onward and upward.
5. Persistence and perseverance. Being able to maintain the same energy
and dedication in your effort to learn, do, and achieve in your career despite
difficulties, failures, and oppositions.
6. Patience. Being able to step back in a seemingly rushed or crisis situation,
so you can think clearly and take action that fulfills your long term goals.
7. Communication skills. Being able to actively listen to others and articulate
your ideas in writing and verbally to any audience in a way where you are heard

and you achieve the goals you intended with that communication. This also
include languages skills if the spoken language at work is your second language.
8. Teamwork skills. Being able to work effectively with anyone with
different skill sets, personalities, work styles, or motivation level to achieve a
better team result.
9. Presentation skills. Effectively presenting your work results and ideas
formally to an audience that captivates their attention, engage their input, and
motivates them to act in accordance to your desired outcome. While
presentation skills is a form of communication skills, I decided to list it separately
given the ability to present plays a huge role in any business profession especially
as you move up in your career.
