The document summarizes a lesson about treasuring happiness from the Beatitudes in Luke. It discusses how Jesus described those who are poor, hungry, weeping or hated as fortunate because they will find fulfillment. In contrast, those who are wealthy, full or well-spoken of now will be unfortunate later. It encourages living life according to the Beatitudes to find eternal happiness through faith in the Gospel. Pursuing God and using earthly things for salvation leads to bliss in heaven.

1. LESSON 16:
TREASURING THE GIFT OF
HAPPINESS
Objectives:
Define Beatitudes.
Identify with the persons in the
story.
Analyze cases concerning the
goodness of one’s actions.
3. THE BEATITUDES LUKE 6:17-26
Then, looking at His disciples, Jesus said,
“Fortunate are you, who are poor; for the kingdom of
God is yours.
Fortunate are you, who are hungry now; for you will be
filled.
Fortunate are you, who weep now; for you will laugh.
Fortunate are you, when people hate you, when they
reject you and insult you and number you among criminals,
because of the Son of Man.
4. THE BEATITUDES LUKE 6:17-26
But alas for you, who have wealth, for you have
been comforted now.
Alas for you, who are full, for you will go
hungry.
Alas for you, who laugh now, for you will mourn
and weep.
Alas for you, when people speak well of you,
for that is how the ancestors of the people treated
the false prophets.”
6. THEWAYTOHAPPINESS
God has placed in our hearts
such infinite desire for
happiness that nothing can
satisfy it, but God Himself.
All earthly fulfillment gives us
only a foretaste of eternal
happiness.
7. THEWAYTOHAPPINESS
The Gospel is a promise of
happiness to all people who wish
to walk in God’s ways.
(cf. Matthew 5:3-12), the belief in
the Gospel and faithfulness to its
teachings secure for us eternal
happiness, seeking first the
kingdom of God and the rest will
follow.
8. THEWAYTOHAPPINESS
Life of JESUS followed while He
was on earth was the life filled
with Beatitudes.
He was poor for those in poverty;
He was happy for those who
rejoiced; and He wept with those
who were grieving.
He is an advocate for peace and
He shows us the way to heaven.
9. THEWAYTOHAPPINESS
Eternal Happiness highly depends
on the kind of life we live on
earth.
The Beatitudes are the standards
for how we ought to relate with
every good on earth: to use all in
view of our salvation and to reject
the call to abuse God’s creation.
There is eternal bliss awaiting for
us.
10. The God-given power to be
able to act of one’s own
accord; a person who is free
no longer acts under the
influence of outside force
other than one’s will and
reason.
11. The person who abandons the will to exercise choosing
the GOOD, binds oneself to the slavery of sin.
Deciding in favor of evil apparently makes one free, but
evil does not make us happy; deviating from the moral
law (what is right and good) is a deprivation of
claiming for the truth, and ultimately, evil deeds
destroy our freedom.
12. A decision toward good is always a
decision leading toward God.
The holy spirit gives us a heart that is filled
with love for God and mankind.
