Bio: Clarence F. Stephens, Jr.
President of four start-up ventures including two nonprofits and the federally funded, Southeast
Alternatives Program (experimental K – 12 educational modeling process): He has had senior
management experience and responsibility at two Fortune 250 companies in business operations
and general management, financial management, capital formulation, long range business
planning, creation of international competitive market tactics and strategy, new products-services
development in existing and new markets, product line business operations, product line research
and development, with extensive new product/market launches and international marketing &
sales.
He is currently managing partner of Gakati Associates Consulting International, Ltd, chairman
and president of the non-profit corporation – Peace Portal Foundation, Inc., on the Board of
Directors of the not-for-profit Village of Success Foundation, Inc modeled after North Carolina’s
Research Triangle Foundation at Research Triangle Park, and marketing advisor to Armstrong-
Emmett, dba, The Hamilton Horse Cookie Co (former official horse treat to the U.S. Equestrian
Team).
Co-creator of the most successful business start-up and business growth process in the United
States that produced a 68% long-term success rate in comparison to the nations’ rate of less than
35% [SBA]. The program had International recognition and hosted many guests and observers
from around the world. Among the participants were MBA's, from Northwestern's Kellogg
School, University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School, MIT's Sloan School, Harvard, Stanford,
and Babson who sought out the program due to its track record of achievement.
He has been involved in the start-up, growth, and setting of strategic direction in over 150 new
businesses in the last 7 years, both for-profit and nonprofit. Bringing a broad consulting
background honed on the Fortune 250 and International 50 such as United Technologies, Cargill,
National Semiconductor, Motorola, Bechtel, Schlumberger-Doll, Pfizer, Lloyds of London,
Imperial Chemical (ICI) and the Office of the President of the United States, he has recently
focused on working with start-ups, early stage, mezzanine, pre-IPO businesses in growth and
emerging markets that face stiff international competition as well as a specialty focus in social
enterprise ventures and nonprofits/NGO’s..

Within these businesses, he has planned and devised capital acquisition strategies ranging from
United States SBA (Small Business Administration) and bank loans through to equity offerings
involving private offerings, SEC (Security Exchange Commission) Regulation A and D, plus
IPO investment banking selection.
He has teamed on projects with such business notables as Michael Porter, Michael Hammer,
Richard Nolin (Product Life Cycle Model creator), Edwin Schein, Al Ries and Jack Trout
(Market/Mind Positioning Model creators) and Michael Treachy
He has been a panelist and featured speaker at several venture groups such as the MIT
(Massachusetts Institute of Technology) Venture Forum and the WPI (Worcester Polytechnic
Institute) Venture Forum. Has been a reviewer and judge for several United States National
Business Plan Competitions. Is currently an adjunct faculty member in Babson College's
Entrepreneurial program.
Attended Oberlin and graduated magna cum laude with a BA from SUNY @ Geneseo, double
majoring in mathematics and psychology (specialty in cognition theory and small group
dynamics). Attended graduate school as both a Woodrow Wilson and NDEA Title IV Fellow.
PhD candidate and holds a MA in mathematics from the University of Wisconsin – Madison
(ranked 8th
nationally in graduate mathematics departments) with a concentration in knot theory
and algebraic topology.
Has specialty graduate business training through programs offered through the Harvard Business
School, the University of Pennsylvania – Wharton School, the University of Michigan’s Ross
School of Business, and Babson College.
