Blogs used to influence discussions around the EU in 2010, but are now considered outdated as blog posts and comments can be found on most online media. While bloggers were once accredited to EU meetings and events, they are now seen as less important as anyone can share opinions on social media. However, new forms of citizen engagement have emerged, including large Facebook groups discussing the EU, internet memes, online petitions, wiki page edits tracking European elections, and hackathons that bring people together to collaborate on projects.
