Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

2. Internship Site 34 Cornell Drive SUNY Canton Public Relations department second floor FOB
3. Goals and Objectives Start my own website to promote my work. Learn to work in a group to get things done in a timely manner. Further improve my communication skills. Help further develop the schools website. Learn different software in order to edit video.
4. First Thoughts At the start of the internship I really didn’t know what to expect. My main duties during the internship were to film and edit video for the schools YouTube page and later embed the videos throughout the semester on SUNY Canton’s Website. I also took initiative to start working on a website for myself.
5. Work Environment The work Environment that I had the pleasure of working in was nice clean and quit. Whenever I needed help it was readily available. On a daily basis I made sure to be at work in a timely manner prepared and well dressed.
6. Software used during internship Final Cut Express I movie Garage band Dream weaver
7. What is Final Cut Express? Final Cut Express is a non-linear video editing application created by Apple Inc. It is the consumer version of Final Cut Pro and is designed for advanced editing of digital video as well as high-definition video, which is used by many amateur and professional videographers. Final Cut Express provides an open format Timeline that accommodates DV (both NTSC and PAL) and HD footage simultaneously and in real time. Just drop video into the Timeline and edit away.
8. Key Features Of Final Cut 1. Supports DVD/Video/Audio formats Input video formats:DVD, VOB, MP4, MOV, M4V, , MPG, MPEG, AVI, WMV, FLV, 3GP, 3GPP, 3G2, ASF, MOD, TOD, MTS, M2TS, TS, TP, TRP, M4A, MP3, WAV, AC3,MKA, MP2, etc. Output video formats: MP4, MOV, M4V, AVI, FLV, 3GP, 3GPP, 3G2, MPG, ASF, VOB, MKV, M4A, MP3, WAV, AC3, MKA, OGG, etc. 2. Merge/join multiple files into one file You can use the Merge option to merge the desired DVD clips into one file. 3. DVD Editing Trim, Crop, Set Brightness, Contrast and Saturation features allow you to get your desired DVD movie. 4. Add watermark to DVD movie You can add image (.png or .jpg) watermark or text watermark to your movies.
10. Final Cut Express Below is a screen shot of the Time Line in final cut where video clips can be dragged dropped and edited no matter what format its in.
11. Final Cut Express On the right of the screen shot is the canvas where edits of video clips can be viewed. On the left of the screen shot is the viewer where video clips can be clipped with in and out points.
12. Final Cut Express Final cut has endless possibilities when editing video. Some of the many options allow you to add transitions, slow down footage add text etc. on the next slide is an example of the many things that can be done with final cut. This video was filmed and edited by me during a career fair here at SUNY Canton. I hope you enjoy the video.
14. iMovie With iMovie, putting together a great movie is as quick as drag and drop. When you want to add professional polish to your project you just simply export to Final Cut Express 4 and edit like a pro. This is done by going to the file tab then exporting in quick time format which has the (.mov) extension
15. iMovie Primarily during my internship I used iMovies to create a series of moving images to later export and use in some of my final cut express projects. Below is an example of those moving images made in iMovie. When exporting footage it has to be exported as a .mov file which is quick time format.
16. iMovie This is how the Program interface looks when opened
17. Audio Editing in iMovie iMovie shows you detailed audio waveforms for all your clips. They’re color coded, so you can see where the audio is overpowering. To adjust the audio levels of a clip or part of a clip, just drag the volume slider. To shorten or extend fades, drag the fade edges. As you make changes, waveforms update immediately so you always see what you hear. And the new single-row view shows you your entire movie project in one horizontal row, so it’s easier to preview and edit your soundtrack.
19. Garage Band In garage band I had the opportunity to develop my own music tracks for the videos I made. Garage band has a Vass amount of sounds and music strings that can be lined up to create an audio track. After creating an audio track you can export the file in mp3 format so that it can be implemented in final cut express. Garage Band allows you to change the tempo of the track the in and out of the track and the length as well as the transitions between sounds.
21. Using Dreamweaver I created a webpage on the schools website under the home tab called public relations. Using dream weaver, I had the option and control of embedding my video to the one of the web pages I added to SUNY Canton’s website under the home tab called public relations. I then resized the videos to fit the page afterwards I embedded this PowerPoint presentation at the top of the webpage
22. Converting PowerPoint to Flash Media In order to add the PowerPoint presentation to the webpage I first had to convert the PowerPoint to flash media before I could embed it. I first uploaded my PowerPoint to a website called www.slideshare.com then clicked convert. After converting the file I now had the option of embedding it.
28. My Website Throughout the semester I was thinking of starting a website and actually had the chance to host a free website. On my website I embedded the various videos I have work on throughout the semester for SUNY Canton Below is a link to my site. www.wix.com/abutta492/IT
30. Lessons Learned Throughout the semester I've learned to be able to take constructive criticism and work hard to improve in the areas that I need improvement in. This semester was very much a learning experience that I will never forget. It helped me develop my writing skill in the area of writing emails. This semester I have also learned to be able to work with other's to get tasks and assignments completed. I found that two people might disagree on certain things but there's always a common ground. I have also learned that a person is only as good as his last assignment.
31. Continued I would definitely recommend this internship site to future interns. The staff there has been nothing but accepting and helpful throughout the semester.
32. Classes That Helped Cita 479 internship orientation course This class helped me better organize myself and my work during the internship. It also helped me organize media footage. Bsad350 Marketing Cita460 Information Technology and Networked Technology Cita 310 Web Server Administration
