3. • Comprehensive Technical Group
o Senior Consultant
Sound Enterprises was aquired by CTG. Daily tasks involve Firewall
changes, DMVPN setup, Turning up circuits for customers, network
planning, and infrastructure improvement. VLAN, Firewall's, Tunnels, and
SNMP setup, monitoring, and configuration is also very typical in day-to-
day operations. We work with whatever our customers gear is, Cisco,
Juniper, and Brocade. We also work with Linux and Windows servers on a
daily basis typically in a VMware environment. Mass VoIP deployments
with Cisco, 3CX, and Avaya are also typical tasks. We support many large
clients with multi-site networks and special requirements. Types of
equipment that I work with frequently are ASA, PIX, Sonicwall, Juniper MX
and EX series, Cisco 3700, 2900, and 6500 series equipment. Recently I had
to do some work on a bunch of Nexus 5000 series.
• Sound Enterprises
o Senior Consultant
Sound Enterprises was acquired by Comprehensive Technical Group. While
at Sound Enterprises I was tasked with maintaining and improving over 30
different client networks. Constant adjustment of ASA's and various
firewalls, VMware deployment P2V, Microsoft Server 2008 functions and
large infrastructure changes are daily tasks. As a less frequent task we also
did wireless installs, large network deployments, and infrastructure
auditing with GAP analysis.
• City of Gainesville Traffic Department
o Ken Schirrmacher Consulting
City of Gainesville SmarTraffic system. An average work day entails remote
administration, fixing Cisco switches and juniper routers. Analyzing
network packets and traffic with wireshark, change configurations based
on DSCP header information from cameras for the various camera vendors.
Adjust multicast as needed and plan fiber routes. My RCDD stamp is
required for stamping some official documents.
• City Of Gainesville Public Works
o Ken Schirrmacher Consulting
While working with the Department of Traffic in the City of Gainesville
our goal is to network their grid of traffic cameras and traffic signals in the
most redundant way possible while also able to achieve the fastest
throughput possible. Over 300 switches, 100 cameras and more devices
being added daily. We now hope to take data from sensors in the roads
and show color coded roads that denote congestion on the website. 50
miles of fiber sitting in conduit that has been directional bored spanning all
of Gainesville makes this one of the largest projects I've ever worked on!
Networked City of Gainesville’s grid of traffic cameras and traffic
signals and after undergoing a DoHS audit and not doing well the City Of
Gainesville sought me out as a consultant to assist them in fixing some of
4. the IT issues that the DoHS outlined. I also planned and implemented a city
wide OSP fiber network connecting all traffic cameras and traffic signals
together, with enough fiber left over to haul for the Florida Lambda rail.
Setting up their VMware HA and DRS environment with over 300+
cameras, Active Directory with integrated DHCP and DNS, license severs,
and using the Google API mapping out all their equipment and getting up-
down status on all devices. We utilized Cacti for network weather mapping
and statistics, in addition to Nagios alerting personnel of failures allowed
for rapid deployment.
Currently securing their network to DoHS standards and building in
N+1 redundancy is the primary goal; we have also integrated alerts from
emergency dispatch to show up in the Traffic NOC to allow for rapid
service repair in downed areas.
• Affiliated Engineers
Working at Affiliated Engineers gave me a chance to work both on the
Internal IT side and on the Consulting side. Managing Affiliated Engineers
internal IT operations was a fun and exciting learning experience. I led my
IT staff through upgrades to our Avaya phone system, Migration into a
virtual environment using VMware ESX and hyperV, and the configuration
of our Cisco multi-site VPN. Our VM host servers included server 2003 and
2008 in a mixed mode and Ubuntu linux distro’s. We upgraded from our
Analog PBX to a SIP provider, and we introduced VoIP connectivity to all
our sites.
I maintained Active Directory integrated DNS and migrated our e-mail
system from Groupwise to Exchange 2003, then migrated from exchange
2003 to 2007. Prioritizing MX records was the key to a successful
migration. Utilized Symantec Backup Exec to automate the backup process.
While we used Sophos Anti-virus on all equipment. Phased out all old
network hardware and upgraded to 1gbps to the desktop with a port-
channeled throughput of 40gbps between switches. Wireless deployment
was originally a bunch of cheap D-link home router/AP’s, those were
phased out to be replaced with a Aerohive wireless mesh solution.
I established new IT policies, which defined acceptable use of IT assets
within the company. I also fulfilled administrative responsibilities including
the addition and changes to user desktop’s, Cell phones, ISP’s, telephone
line provider, and printer maintenance accounts. In addition I also
provided desktop, configuration, and phone support for software and
hardware when nessassary. I also carried out the full installation of Cisco
routers and switches, and prided myself on an immaculate cabling job! Dell
was the vendor of choice so I have direct hand on experience with 2950’s,
Equallogic, Compellent, and their Desktop and server line of products.
Maintaining VLAN’s and accurate interface descriptions, well laid out
infrastructure plans, and diagrams are a must for any IT department that
I’m a part of!
• Campus USA Credit Union
While working at the Credit Union I gained a lot of Cisco experience.
5. Windows running in mixed mode with 2003 and 2008 with Exchange and
BES, ISA and IIS were used to keep a steady web uptime. Notifications
were handled via SNMP through Nagios. Websense was used to keep
Employee productivity up by filtering web content. All the sites came back
to the CO for VoIP connectivity and then connection was made to our
analog PBX, our analog connection was two T1’s brought in providing us
with 48 concurrent voice lines. Our Data throughput to the internet was a
10mbps Metro E connection burstable to 100mbps.
Our anti-virus of choice was PC-Cillin, a Trend Micro product, removal
of the previous McAffee proved to be quite a pain to remove . HP was
more of the server vendor, and Dell was more of the desktop vendor. HP
Proliant servers equipped with iLO cards for remote management, along
with IPkvm’s for other non-iLO servers. System Center assisted with up-
down notifications, and the configuration manager made Desktop
deployments take 90% less time.
6. While working at Affiliated Engineers and Ken Schirrmacher Consulting I have
had the great pleasure of working with some very incredible clients and some
awesome team members; all of which highly recommend me.
• St. Anthony’s hospital
o Affiliated Engineers
Designed a campus wide OSP fiber layout integrating with all existing building

campus design. The Technology design for the ED included telecom spaces,
racks, equipment, BAS, Nurse Call, Nurse Locator, Wireless design, and Code
Blue.

were done to bring the building up to current standards as well as updating,
Telecom spaces, CCTV, Access control, A/V design, OSP design, Wireless design,
and distributed television systems.
7. • Greensboro North Carolina Department of Traffic
Working in Greensboro NC for the DOT helped me to build on my Traffic
management experience that I gained at the City of Gainesville Traffic Dept.
Networking 10 Cisco 6504’s together with vlan seperation and over 200+
switches in each traffic cabinet with vlan seperation for local tech’s to plug in,
wireless, controller connectivity and more. Programming the controllers at the
intersections is now a breeze via the network, in addition the SNMP
monitoring that is done by the Network Monitoring Software allows the techs
to remotely monitor and manage all equipment.
