2. Cinchona officinalis
• SYNONYM: Jesuit’s bark, Jesuit’s powder
• DESCRIPTION: large shrubs or small trees
with evergreen foliage, 5-15m (16-49
feet) in height.
• LEAVES: Opposite, rounded to lanceolate.
• FLOWERS : White, pink or red.
• FRUIT: Small capsule containing numerous
seeds.
3. CONSTITUENTS
CINCHONA ALKALOIDS – 25 types:
• Cinchonine and cinchonidine - isomers
• Quinine and quinidine - stereoisomers
• Dihydroquinine and dihydroquinidine
• Cinchotannic acid, bitter essential oil.
• Quinovin hydrolysis to quinovic acid &
quinovose.
The alkaloids contains at least 15% of
quinine with not more than 20%.

7. TONIC WATER
• EDIBLE USE : Quinine as a bitter
flavouring agent in tonic water and
carbonated drinks.
• INGREDIENTS : Cinchona, ginger, clove
and carbonated water.
8. CINCHONA CAPSULES
• INGREDIENTS: Cinchona officinalis dried
bark – 1000mg. 100% Pure Gelatin
capsules.
• DIRECTION: 2capsules 2-3 times a day with
meal.
• CONTAINS: Quinine, Quina.
• USE: Cold and cough treatment,
hypothermia and antimalarial drug.
9. QUININE TABLETS
• INGREDIENTS: Each tablet consists of
quinine sulphate 300mg and other
