Artemisia cina, also known as santonica, Levant wormseed, and wormseed, is a species of herbaceous perennial native to parts of Asia and Eastern Europe. Its dried flower heads contain santonin, which has been used as an herbal vermifuge since ancient times to expel worms. In 1829, Samuel Hahnemann proved the efficacy of Cina and found it helped treat symptoms beyond just expelling worms, such as irritability, restlessness, cough, and urinary issues. The herb and its ingredient santonin are still used in some herbal medications today to treat parasitic worm infections.
