Chromosome Structure: Explain why each chromosome in a eukaryotic cell has multiple origins
of replication but one and only one centromere.
Solution
Answer:
Eukaryotic genome is organised in linear chromosomes which are separate (not linked). Since
the eukaryotic DNA is large, it could be way too time consuming to have only 1 origin of
replication. Multiple chromosomes and large genome size brings in multiple origin of replication
to quicken the process of replication. Multiple origins of replication allow many parts of the
DNA to be replicated simultaneously.
