Importance of geotechnical engineering knowledge to civil engineers:-
In today\'s environmental challenges due to climatic changes and global increase in population
the knowledge of geotechnical engineering is a boon for the civil engineers. The knowledge helps
engineers in minimizing natural hazards :-
1) By Landslide stabilization.
2) Flood Protection.
3) Avalanche and mud flow protection.
4) Design of earthquake resistant structures etc.
In former centuries drinking water was often contaminated with full of bacterias causing terrible
epidemics like cholera, typhoid, fever etc. causing death of millions of populations. It is the merit
of geotechnical engineering which saved millions of life than medicine by providing the means
of supply of clean drinking water and for proper disposal of liquid and solid waste. The first
public Vienna drinking water system, for instance, was constructed in the year 1870-1873, and it
has been supplying the population with 470 million litres of high quality water per day ever
since. The total length of the pipes from the headwaters region in the mountains to the
reservoirsin Vienna is 3,100 km.
It was through dams, not gold that california became the equivalent of the world\'s seventh
richest country.Dams have turned the arid central valley into an agricultural supermarket to the
world.
Concept of Geotechnical engineering & application in construction
Geotechnical engineering is the branch of civil engineering concerned with the engineering
behavior of earth materials. Geotechnical engineering is important in civil engineering, but also
has applications in military, mining, petroleum and other engineering disciplines that are
concerned with construction occurring on the surface or within the ground. Geotechnical
engineering uses principles of soil mechanics and rock mechanics to investigate subsurface
conditions and materials; determine the relevant physical/mechanical and chemical properties of
these materials; evaluate stability of natural slopes and man-made soil deposits; assess risks
posed by site conditions; design earthworks and structure foundations; and monitor site
conditions, earthwork and foundation construction.
A typical geotechnical engineering project begins with a review of project needs to define the
required material properties. Then follows a site investigation of soil, rock, fault distribution and
bedrock properties on and below an area of interest to determine their engineering properties
including how they will interact with, on or in a proposed construction. Site investigations are
needed to gain an understanding of the area in or on which the engineering will take place.
Investigations can include the assessment of the risk to humans, property and the environment
from natural hazards such as earthquakes, landslides, sinkholes, soil liquefaction, debris flows
and rock falls.
An engineer then determines and designs the type of foundations, earthworks, and/or pavement
sub grades required for t.

Engineering Characterisation of Aggregates from Some Selected Areas in Kumasi...IJAEMSJORNAL
The increase in engineering projects translates to an increase in demand for construction materials, for example, aggregates which are a major component in concrete works. There are many quarries in the Kumasi area which produce aggregates for use in construction works. However, there is no readily available information on the geological and geotechnical properties of these aggregates for use by engineers during the planning, design and construction of projects. This project therefore sought to characterise the aggregate from selected areas (close to some major quarries) in Kumasi based on their geological and engineering properties for construction purposes. Results of the study indicate that Aggregates from sampling locations KP and CS passed the FI test with those from CS being the only ones to pass for EI, making them the best aggregates in terms of Flakiness and Elongation Indices. The aggregates from all the sampling locations passed for the Specific Gravity and Water Absorption tests with CS aggregates giving the best results indicating high strength and good rate of water absorption. Aggregate from sampling location NM gave the best result for the Aggregate Impact Value test indicating high resistance to sudden impacts and shocks. With the Ten Percent Fines Value and the Aggregate Crushing Value Tests, CS yet again produced the aggregates with the best results. The aggregate gave a very high result even under the wet/soaked condition when all the others were giving very low results. Aggregates from this sampling locations can withstand loading gradual compression better than the rest. Finally, the KP aggregates gave the best results for the Los Angeles Abrasion Value which suggests such materials to be the hardest and toughest to resist crushing, degradation and disintegration. Aggregates from the CS, however gave the second best results. From the study, it was concluded that the most suitable location to obtain good quality aggregates is around CS as its aggregates gave the best results in almost all the tests.

Call for Chapters- Edited Book: Real World Challenges in Quantum Electronics ...Christo Ananth
Most experts would consider this the biggest challenge. Quantum computers are extremely sensitive to noise and errors caused by interactions with their environment. This can cause errors to accumulate and degrade the quality of computation. Developing reliable error correction techniques is therefore essential for building practical quantum computers. While quantum computers have shown impressive performance for some tasks, they are still relatively small compared to classical computers. Scaling up quantum computers to hundreds or thousands of qubits while maintaining high levels of coherence and low error rates remains a major challenge. Developing high-quality quantum hardware, such as qubits and control electronics, is a major challenge. There are many different qubit technologies, each with its own strengths and weaknesses, and developing a scalable, fault-tolerant qubit technology is a major focus of research. Funding agencies, such as government agencies, are rising to the occasion to invest in tackling these quantum computing challenges. Researchers — almost daily — are making advances in the engineering and scientific challenges to create practical quantum computers

VIIT Pune, India
Abstract:
This paper proposes a system to differentiate between human-generated and AI-generated texts using stylometric analysis. The system analyzes text files and classifies writing styles by employing various clustering algorithms, such as k-means, k-means++, hierarchical, and DBSCAN. The effectiveness of these algorithms is measured using silhouette scores. The system successfully identifies distinct writing styles within documents, demonstrating its potential for plagiarism detection.
Introduction:
Stylometry, the study of linguistic and structural features in texts, is used for tasks like plagiarism detection, genre separation, and author verification. This paper leverages stylometric analysis to identify different writing styles and improve plagiarism detection methods.
Methodology:
The system includes data collection, preprocessing, feature extraction, dimensional reduction, machine learning models for clustering, and performance comparison using silhouette scores. Feature extraction focuses on lexical features, vocabulary richness, and readability scores. The study uses a small dataset of texts from various authors and employs algorithms like k-means, k-means++, hierarchical clustering, and DBSCAN for clustering.
Results:
Experiments show that the system effectively identifies writing styles, with silhouette scores indicating reasonable to strong clustering when k=2. As the number of clusters increases, the silhouette scores decrease, indicating a drop in accuracy. K-means and k-means++ perform similarly, while hierarchical clustering is less optimized.
Conclusion and Future Work:
The system works well for distinguishing writing styles with two clusters but becomes less accurate as the number of clusters increases. Future research could focus on adding more parameters and optimizing the methodology to improve accuracy with higher cluster values. This system can enhance existing plagiarism detection tools, especially in academic settings.

Harnessing WebAssembly for Real-time Stateless Streaming PipelinesChristina Lin
Traditionally, dealing with real-time data pipelines has involved significant overhead, even for straightforward tasks like data transformation or masking. However, in this talk, we’ll venture into the dynamic realm of WebAssembly (WASM) and discover how it can revolutionize the creation of stateless streaming pipelines within a Kafka (Redpanda) broker. These pipelines are adept at managing low-latency, high-data-volume scenarios.

Online aptitude test management system project report.pdfKamal Acharya
The purpose of on-line aptitude test system is to take online test in an efficient manner and no time wasting for checking the paper. The main objective of on-line aptitude test system is to efficiently evaluate the candidate thoroughly through a fully automated system that not only saves lot of time but also gives fast results. For students they give papers according to their convenience and time and there is no need of using extra thing like paper, pen etc. This can be used in educational institutions as well as in corporate world. Can be used anywhere any time as it is a web based application (user Location doesn’t matter). No restriction that examiner has to be present when the candidate takes the test.
Every time when lecturers/professors need to conduct examinations they have to sit down think about the questions and then create a whole new set of questions for each and every exam. In some cases the professor may want to give an open book online exam that is the student can take the exam any time anywhere, but the student might have to answer the questions in a limited time period. The professor may want to change the sequence of questions for every student. The problem that a student has is whenever a date for the exam is declared the student has to take it and there is no way he can take it at some other time. This project will create an interface for the examiner to create and store questions in a repository. It will also create an interface for the student to take examinations at his convenience and the questions and/or exams may be timed. Thereby creating an application which can be used by examiners and examinee’s simultaneously.
Examination System is very useful for Teachers/Professors. As in the teaching profession, you are responsible for writing question papers. In the conventional method, you write the question paper on paper, keep question papers separate from answers and all this information you have to keep in a locker to avoid unauthorized access. Using the Examination System you can create a question paper and everything will be written to a single exam file in encrypted format. You can set the General and Administrator password to avoid unauthorized access to your question paper. Every time you start the examination, the program shuffles all the questions and selects them randomly from the database, which reduces the chances of memorizing the questions.

NUMERICAL SIMULATIONS OF HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER IN CONDENSING HEAT EXCHANGERS...ssuser7dcef0
Power plants release a large amount of water vapor into the
atmosphere through the stack. The flue gas can be a potential
source for obtaining much needed cooling water for a power
plant. If a power plant could recover and reuse a portion of this
moisture, it could reduce its total cooling water intake
requirement. One of the most practical way to recover water
from flue gas is to use a condensing heat exchanger. The power
plant could also recover latent heat due to condensation as well
as sensible heat due to lowering the flue gas exit temperature.
Additionally, harmful acids released from the stack can be
reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation. reduced in a condensing heat exchanger by acid condensation.
Condensation of vapors in flue gas is a complicated
phenomenon since heat and mass transfer of water vapor and
various acids simultaneously occur in the presence of noncondensable
gases such as nitrogen and oxygen. Design of a
condenser depends on the knowledge and understanding of the
heat and mass transfer processes. A computer program for
numerical simulations of water (H2O) and sulfuric acid (H2SO4)
condensation in a flue gas condensing heat exchanger was
developed using MATLAB. Governing equations based on
mass and energy balances for the system were derived to
predict variables such as flue gas exit temperature, cooling
water outlet temperature, mole fraction and condensation rates
of water and sulfuric acid vapors. The equations were solved
using an iterative solution technique with calculations of heat
and mass transfer coefficients and physical properties.

Presentation in Geotechnical Engineering & Science
Having understood the need to innovate, support, improve and optimize the operation
processes and systems of minerals, and to improve quality of crystals through engineering
approaches, I would like to sincerely thank Dr.Christo Ananth for his valuable contribution
through Seminars entitled “Role of Clay and Minerals in Geotechnical Engineering and
Science” and “Roles and Responsibilities of Geotechnical Engineers in Enhancing Quality
of Minerals” . He insisted the importance of Geotechnical Engineering to be behind many of
the most modern, groundbreaking minerals that are commonplace today, such as calcite,
dolomite, hydrated lime, china clay, china lime, lime powder and limestone powder. He
explained that Clay has a great influence on the engineering behavior of soils. He lightened the
fact that Deposition, weathering and stresses during geological processes ensure that the
natural structure is different. In geotechnical engineering, besides determining the settlement,
swelling and strength properties, mineral properties of the soil, particle structure and strength
must be known when clay is encountered. Seminars, such as these, will definitely benefit
mankind and kindle the development of Geotechnical Engineering Education. Contribution in
the field of Geotechnical Engineering and Science is overwhelming, while I wish him greater
productive results in all his inputs.
Warm Regards,
Uthaya Kumar,
