1. Christmas, by Jessica It was the Saturday before Christmas and my family, some friends and I were going to an ice rink in Cambridge. I was very excited because I’d only ever been ice skating once before, and I had fallen over hundreds of times. It was OK, but I had gone home feeling like I’d climbed a mountain and slid all the way down to the bottom again, through ice and snow. This time though I was going to try and stay on my feet. I was expecting the ice to be freezing because last time it was really cold.

2. First we took the car to the car park and then from there we took a bus to Cambridge. Inside the bus was very cold because it had no heating. When we got to Cambridge we walked over to the rather large outdoor ice-skating rink and went in. I put on some ice skates and travelled to the ice with my parents.

3. When I touched the ice it was colder than I expected. The air was bitterly cold too and I was shaking uncontrollably. My nose was red in the freezing weather as well. The ice was very slippery. All my friends were very good at ice skating. I wasn’t, but a little while later I could do it. I went round and round with my mum, and I only fell over once. Soon my friends left the ice rink to get a hot chocolate so I followed them.

4. When we finished having a hot chocolate, we went to a Chinese restaurant. I had duck and pancakes. It was delicious. All my friends had the same diner too. The duck was meant to be a starter but I didn’t like the main course so I just had duck.

5. Finally it was time to go home. When we got there our family had a nice roast dinner that mum had cooked for us. There was tasty soft chicken and there were potatoes, carrots, broccoli and in the middle there was a large Yorkshire pudding covered in gravy. What a great day!
