Summer is the time of year when many homeowners want to paint the exterior of their home. Whilst many people will naturally avoid rain, strong winds and bright sunshine must also be considered.

Temperature and Humidity
When it comes to temperature, 21 degrees Celsius is
the ideal outdoor painting climate. As the tempera-
ture increases paint can have difficulty binding to the
surface, resulting in cracking or peeling.
When it comes to humidity, homeowners ideally want
to be painting at around fifty percent humidity. Once
the humidity level gets into the 70s and 80s, paint will
take longer to dry and cure.

Direct Sunlight
Wind
Even if the temperature is moderate, avoid painting
in direct sunlight. Direct sunlight can increase the
surface temperature of a wall above air temperature,
leading to problems with the paint drying.
High wind conditions can cause a paint’s binding
agents to evaporate too quickly. This can lead to the
paint not having enough time to adhere to the wall
properly. On top of issues with paint adhering, wind
can also blow sediment into wet paint.
