Chitral Has for many years been among Sri
Lanka's best known wildlife photographers,
having shown his work at numerous
exhibitions since 2001. An avid nature lover
and conservationist, Chitral won his first
award in photography from Prince Phillip,
the Duke of Edinburgh, aged just 17.
in 2003, following a joint exhibition with
Dr.Ravi Samarasinhe, Chitral published
"Wilds of Lanka" a photographic guide to Yala National Park.
He then focused on Sri Lanka's Bio-Diversity in his 2nd publication
"Moments of Truth in the wilderness" launched in 2009.
Chitral works for John Keells Hotels Group developing Sustainable
Wildlife Tourism and Eco resorts in the conglomerates Leisure
division.
He just published his 3rd
book with his field team titled
“Reflections of the Wild”. His dedication to the work and his
Team’s achievements won two consecutive Presidents awards in Sri
Lanka.
As an Assistant Vice President of John Keells Group, he heads a
dedicated team of field naturalists at Keells creating nature related
adventures and his efforts has served Sri Lanka well as he has
already attracted world renowned photographers such as Amos
Nachoum and Austin Stevens to the Island filming documentaries of
our bio-diversity.
His latest success story has been the Whale watching operation
spearheaded by Chitral with thousands of tourists experiencing a
deep water adventure off the sea's of Mirissa. His team also initiated
whale watching in the Eastern seas off Trinco.
His passion to develop sustainable tourism won him the Prestigious
John Keells Chairmen’s Award, and he continues to take Sri Lanka’s
Bio Diversity to a world audience.

2. Chitral also developed a special program for corporate team building
at Walkers Tours based at Habarana tagged as “Wild Challenge” a
resident hard core outbound team event that incorporated
photography. He conducts team building and motivational events for
John Keells Hotels Group, Nations Trust Bank and visiting Indian
corporates.
Chitral was invited by Sri Lanka Tourism to conduct a Photo
exhibition on the Islands natural wealth which he did jointly with
Gehan De Silva in London back in 2009.
More recently, He’s worked with Scuba Zoo in Malaysia filming Blue
Whales and Nat Geo last year producing a documentary on Yala’s
leopards at night. He’s had the pleasure of working with wildlife
celebrities such as Jonathan and Angela Scott, Amos Nachoum, Dr
Charles Anderson, Martin Dohrn and Roger Hooper and Romuelus
Whittaker.
Chitral has published his work thrice, his first, “Wilds of Lanka” in
2003, Moments of Truth in 2008 and more recently “Reflection’s of
the Wild” in 2012. He’s also exhibited his images in 6 exhibitions.
Chitral inspired his team nature Trails at John Keells hotels to win the
Sri Lanka Tourism coveted award for the
“Best Wildlife service provider” 2012.
He’s also in the forefront of developing photography in the Island
having led the organization of an all Island wildlife-photo competition
for the Wildlife & Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka in 2006 and
continuing with the Nature Photographer event annually through John
Keells Group in collaboration with Etisalat Lanka.
Chitral managed ground logistics for BBC’s elite Natural History Unit
covering Sri Lanka’s big mammals including a 25 day night shoot of
the leopards both in Yala and Wilpattu national parks, while his team
just concluded working with BBC-Earth filming a 45 day documentary
on Macaques in Sri Lanka.
His most recent filming assignment was with Dominic Monaghan –
filming ‘Wild Things’ in Ceylon tracking a Cobra for Discovery
Channel.
