My name is Genie Hou. I recently received a MBA degree from the University of
Essex. My mom works in the educational field and my dad is a businessman. Moreover,
I also have one little sister.
After receiving my undergraduate degree, I worked in the stock market field for
around three years. In order to further improve my business and communication skills, I
applied for a joint MBA program offered by University of Essex and University of
International Business and Economics. During my time in England, I met a variety
people from around the world. Understanding and experiencing different cultures around
the world was a really unique experience. I love meeting and working with different
people, and through this experience, I built a strong global social network. While
working on projects and presentations, I would always lead my team in order to enhance
our creative ideas. My leadership and presentation skills received a range of
compliments from my professors and peers. Besides working hard at school, I did not
miss my opportunity to visit my neighborhood countries. I enjoyed my time exploring
the interesting cultures around Europe.
While studying in Beijing at the University of International Business and
Economics, I experienced the competitive and ambitious attitudes that many Chinese
students portrayed. This motivated me to study even harder. The aggressive behaviors
from the Chinese students helped me to further push myself to engage more in class
discussions. Unlike other students, I had experiences working in the finance and stock
industries. Therefore, I actively led many class discussions on topics around finance and
stock. My precise and professional business ideas and reports gained many respect from
others.
I majored in Statistics during my undergraduate study. Besides taking courses
around Statistics, I also engaged in many activities outside of academics such as
Carnegie training and different clubs that the university offered. The activities inside and
outside the classrooms helped me to think analytically, read critically, and write more
effectively. Moreover, these experiences helped me become more friendly and outgoing.
I received a broad-based academic foundation that strengthened my intellect.

I worked at NCC International Corporation after my undergraduate study. This
company helped me gain a lot of real world experience on the business field. I became
more passionate about working in the business world. Due to the company’s highly
competitive environment, I had to make around 100 calls everyday to clients who would
like to use Yahoo! Kimo keyword advertising to promote their companies.
I used my strong communication and marketing skills to persuade many clients to
use the company’s branding services. After working here, I started thinking more
intellectually about branding and marketing.
To further pursue my passion in the business world, I moved on to become a
stockbroker at Yuanta Securities Firm. I was in charge in analyzing the stock market in
details and sharing the best investment ideas to my clients. I received many trusts from
my clients after they received a 30% ~ 40% net growth in profit after using my
investment proposals. My bosses often recognized me as the most successful freshman
in this field.
In the near future, I plan to learn more about the business field. I look forward
to working with many different people around this industry. I am excited to display my
hardworking attitudes, responsible decisions, and team working abilities while working
with others. If I am hired, I believe that I will be able to accomplish my goals in the
company. I will use the skills I learned in MBA to maximize my working potential. I
