EQUN.com is a volunteer computing community in China that was founded in 2001 to coordinate Chinese participation in volunteer computing projects. It includes a wiki with over 400 entries providing guidance on major volunteer computing projects, as well as an online forum with over 22,000 members discussing volunteer computing. While over 40,000 Chinese volunteers currently participate in projects, barriers to greater participation include language barriers, complicated registration, and lack of awareness of science and contribution. The document examines the demographics of Chinese volunteers and discusses concerns around security, energy usage, and ensuring Chinese projects and results are represented.
