Chinese New Year is celebrated with dragons, which represent good luck and scare away bad spirits. Dragons are paraded down streets on poles or in costumes while being lit up. Children receive presents of money in beautifully decorated red and gold envelopes from family and friends. Traditional foods eaten include Chinese pancakes, duck, fish, spring onions, rice and sweet and sour sauces. Buildings and streets are decorated with lanterns in gold and red, which symbolize good luck. Families come together to celebrate the new year, especially at grandparents' homes.
