In almost all developing countries, children and young people make up the majority of the population -- up to 70 per cent
in some cases. The Convention on the Rights of the Child adopted in 1989 sets out the civil, political, economic, social
and cultural rights of girls and boys until they reach the age of 18.
The rights of young people are violated in many different ways around the world. Implementing all children's rights on a
global scale therefore represents an enormous challenge. If children are to shape their future, we must all strive to
ensure that they are aware of their rights and that these rights are observed, protected and safeguarded.
Human rights-based development policy is designed to provide effective, sustainable support for partner countries to
implement the rights of children and young people.
The clip shows the wide range of fields in development-related priority areas where action is needed on children's rights
and highlights the direct associations with children's rights.
As well as providing information, the clip is also a call for us all to contribute more strongly to the implementation of
children's rights.

Los ODM
Los Objetivos de Desarrollo del Milenio (ODM), asumidos por los jefes de Estado y
de Gobierno de 189 países en el seno de las Naciones Unidas para ser alcanzados en
el año 2015, tienen una estrecha vinculación con la niñez y la adolescencia, ya que
cada uno de los ODM tiene implicación en el desarrollo de los niños, niñas y
adolescentes. Los ODM adaptados al contexto de Argentina son:
ODM 1 Erradicar la pobreza extrema y el hambre
ODM 2 Alcanzar la educación básica universal
ODM3 Promover el trabajo decente
ODM 4 Promover la equidad de género
ODM 5 Reducir la mortalidad infantil
ODM6 Mejorar la salud materna
ODM7 Combatir el VIH/Sida, la Tuberculosis, el Paludismo, el Chagas y otras
enfermedades
ODM8 Asegurar un medioambiente sostenible
