in New York City.
The United Nations has several objectives, including maintaining
international peace and security, promoting social progress and better
living standards.

6. Poverty and Its Causes
Poverty is a condition where people lack the financial resources
or basic necessities to meet their basic needs for a standard of
living that is considered acceptable in a particular society.
Poverty can be both absolute and relative, with absolute poverty
referring to a lack of the most basic necessities for survival, and
relative poverty indicating a lower standard of living compared
to the rest of the society.
Poverty is an issue that can be the result of several factors such
as lack of education, unemployment, political instability and
corruption.
Causes of Poverty

● "No poverty" is one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
established by the United Nations to eliminate poverty in all its forms
and dimensions, and to ensure that, by 2030, all men, women, and
children have equal access to resources, services, and opportunities,
and that extreme poverty is eliminated.
● Efforts to meet the "No poverty" goal involve promoting sustainable
economic growth, creating decent employment opportunities,
ensuring social protection, improving access to education and
healthcare, and addressing the root causes of poverty such as
inequality and discrimination.

10. As human beings, our well being is connected, and growing
inequality harms economic growth and social unity, leading to
political and social tensions which can drive instability and cause
problems in society.
Another thing to consider is social protection which refers to a set of
policies and programs designed to reduce poverty and vulnerability
to risks and negative events. It aims to help families and households.
Despite some efforts during the COVID-19 crisis, over 4 billion
people lack protection, emphasizing the need for increased action
and investment in economic opportunities, education, and strong
social protection systems to fulfill the commitment to end poverty.
If current trends persist, 575 million people will still live in extreme
poverty by 2030 which if compared to the current global poverty level
of 659 million people, as of 2023, is small difference and
improvement in the global poverty levels.
Why is this goal and social protection important?
In response to cost-of-living challenges, between
February 2022 and February 2023, 105 countries
and territories have announced almost 350 social
protection measures 80% of which were short-term
and insufficient.
