According to statistics from ChildHelp, around 6 million children in the US are abused each year, with around 3 million reports of abuse. 30% of adults who were abused as children often go on to abuse their own children. Child abuse can have long-lasting mental health consequences for victims, including anxiety, depression, and PTSD. Common causes of abuse include substance abuse, unrealistic expectations of the child, lack of parenting skills, being abused oneself as a child, mental illness, and work pressures. Children who are abused may become shy, unhappy, and feel they cannot rely on or trust others.

- 2. Rate of Child Abuse in the U.S. According to the ChildHelp organization in America, around 6 million children are victims of child abuse. From this, around 3 million reports of child abuse are made. And, around 30% of adults who have been abused as children will most likely abuse their own children.
- 3. Consequences of Child Abuse A child who has been abused early in their lives is more likely to suffer from mental problems like anxiety and depression, and is most likely going to suffer from flashbacks. Also, a child who has been abused will most likely grow up to be an adult that abuses their own children.
- 4. Causes of Child Abuse Some causes that the abusers may do this to the their child or a child, is of the following: -Alcohol/Drugs Abuse -Their high expectations on what they want the child to achieve. -Lack of skills in raising a child. -May have been abused also as a child. -Mental illness. -Work pressures.
- 5. The consequence To a child’s personality Children who get abused are often serious, unhappy and shy.They feel like they can’t rely on anyone in the world, because its dangerous to them. It makes them feel depressed as well.
- 6. How does child abuse effects grades ● Child abuse shows that children become more distant in school and are embarrassed of what happens to them. According to the NCTSN, the traumatic events leads elementary students to show signs of aggression also become more agitated.
- 7. Child Abuse Affecting the Children Mentally ● According to TIME Magazine, child maltreatment can lead to Post Traumatic Stress Disorder also known as PTSD. ● "25% percents of participants had suffered major depression at some point in their lives." TIME Magazine
