Miami Dade College opened in 1960 as Dade County Junior College with 1,428 students. It was the first integrated junior college in Florida. By the 1980s, nearly 18,000 students were immigrants or refugees, with 46% having a non-English native language. Miami Dade College offers over 150 academic programs including A.A., A.S., A.A.S., B.S., and B.A.S. degrees, as well as certificates. Notable alumni include Emilio Estefan, Sylvester Stallone, and Andy Garcia. The student is interested in majoring in biology and becoming an anesthesiologist technician.
