Alaska Glacial Retreat And Acidification Impacts On...
AGLACIER: Alaska GLacial retreat ACidification Impacts on Ecosystem Resilience
The EPSCoR Overarching Question is: How can we understand regime shifts and tipping points in
large scale ecosystems in Alaska. The theme we will address is: Coastal margins and marine living
resources.
Overarching Goal: This proposed EPSCoR will focus on the impact of glacial melt on the physics
and chemistry of the marine environment, and their consequences for the intertidal and coastal
biological communities.
Objectives:
1)Build on historical ecological data that describes the physical, biological, and chemical variability
of Kachemak Bay, a subarctic biodiversity hot spot.
2)Determine the mechanisms that relate the present and anticipated future variability in glacial
dynamics to shifts in coastal ecosystem structure and function using laboratory and field
experimentation, observations, and modeling.
Question:
How is variability in current and future glacial input to the marine environment influencing the
structure and function of coastal marine ecosystems via changes to the physical and chemical
environment (i.e., temperature, salinity, stratification, turbidity, pH and the carbonate saturation
state)?
Intellectual merit:
Healthy coastal marine ecosystems are critically important to America s ecology, economy, and
standard of living. While Alaska contains nearly half of the nation s coastline, we have little
understanding of how future climate variability will impact ecological

Causes And Effects Of Absenteeism
One of the easiest ways to succeed at a job is to simply show up and do your job. For some
people, it s not very easy to show up for work. There are numerous reasons, some valid and some
not, for people not showing up to work. Whether it s is illness, or family responsibilities, or
change of weather, people will always find a reason for not being at work. Showing up for work
when you are supposed to and on time is not only highly beneficial for your employer, but for
you personally as well. However, most employees do not realize the effects of absenteeism.
Absenteeism is an employee s willful or habitual absence from work. While employers expect
workers to miss a certain number of workdays each year, excessive absences can equate to
decreased productivity and can have a major effect on company finances, morale and other
factors. This passage looks at the causes of absenteeism, the costs of lost productivity and what
employers can do to reduce absenteeism rates in the workplace. People miss work for a variety
of reasons, many of which are legitimate and others not so much. Some of the basic causes of
absenteeism include Bullying and Harassment of Employees who are bullied and/or harassed by
coworkers and/or by their bosses are more than likely to call in sick to avoid the situation Burnout,
stress and low morale, Heavy workloads, stressful meetings/presentations and feelings of being
unacknowledged can cause employees to avoid going into work. Personal stress not related to

The Children And Where Are You Going
In the stories The Children and Where are You Going, Where Have You Been, both authors
captivates their audience through similar contexts. Both authors intrigued the audiences of
juveniles because their characters consist of ages between 13 to 18. They reached out to the
younger generations to teach a lesson of how quickly one could become lost within society. Society
makes a person lose value in their culture and familyvirtue.
The Children of Julie Otsuka, took place from the fields of Japan to the wide open range of North
America. Japanese mothers wanted a better life for their offspring so they took their belongings and
left their spouse. Mothers not only packed their personal items, but their cultural traditions as well.

They forget the names of the flowers in Japanese. They forgot the names of the fox god and the
thunder god... (Otsuka 1072). The children were bewildered by their mother s speech that they
began to act as if they did not understand the language spoken. The children did not speak their
native tongue because it was not the language spoken in America. They wanted to adapt so quickly
to a common culture since the children are tired of being an outcast.
Consequently, Japanese children did not want to be a Japanese native anymore when they
observed the life of an American child. They compared their horrific lifestyle to the luxury of an
American. Otsuka illustrates an American house as ... fancy white houses with gold framed
mirrors and crystal doorknobs and porcelain toilets that flushed with the yank of a chain...there
were mattresses stuffed with hard metal springs that were somehow as soft as a cloud (Otsuka
1069). She did not illustrate a Japanese home to her readers because they are rarely at home. The
mothers work in the fields as she watches her children play quietly outside. They did not sleep on
plush mattresses, but wooden boards covered with hay (Otsuka 1067). One character traveled to
the city to work as a maid and agreed that the beds were soft. They children did not enjoy the
differences in cultures. As they work countless hours with their mothers, others do not even observe
the sun rising because they stay at home

The Secret Sharer Assignment
In The Secret Sharer by Joseph Conrad, we as readers are introduced to the captain and a former
first mate of another ship who has been arrested for murder of another crew member, whose
name is Legatt. We learn of the captain s elaborate plan to hide Legatt to avoid his capture. First,
he takes Legatt, the arrested first mate, under his wing and instead of arresting him, like he
should, he tells him to hide in his quarters, and throughout the tale, we see Legatt nearly being
captured multiple times, such as when the captain is asked where his coat is, and one of his
crewmen reply that it was in his quarters in the bathroom, to which the captain suddenly goes into
a cold sweat, worrying he might be found out if Legatt is seen. Legatt and the captain appear as
doubles because the captain, feeling sorry for Legatt, decides to give him clothing of his to wear for

Walking to the taffrail, I was in time to make out, on the very edge of a darkness thrown by a
towering black mass like the very gateway of Erebus yes, I was in time to catch an evanescent
glimpse of my white hat left behind to mark the spot where the secret sharer of my cabin and of my
thoughts, as though he were my second self, had lowered himself into the water to take his
punishment: a free man, a proud swimmer striking out for a new destiny. (Conrad 193)
What does this mean?: In short, the captain remembers the person who was in his cabin, Legatt,
and since he was a former first mate, he is similar to the captain. The last line signifies that Legatt
has moved on to a new life. Throughout the story, we see the captain refer to Legatt as his second
self, or double, but I think that the reason that he calls him double is because he s looking at
himself and who he used to

Adenosine binds onto receptors on the brain cells, which causes people to feel the tiredness and
laziness; however, because the two molecules are very similar, caffeine too is able to blockthe
receptors. The excess adenosine is converted into adrenaline which most people are used to
experiencing when drinking coffee, a sense of alertness and energy for about 4 6 hours. It also
helps the natural stimulants work better, so, in a way, caffeine is a stimulant for stimulants. All of
this information culminates in the fact that these stimulants that are activated due to the caffeine
are what cause the heart to beat rapidly, either too fast for the daphnia to survive, or just enough
that they are more active, like humans are when ingesting caffeine. Caffeine also causes hunger as

The Best Hotel Rates Or Car Rental Deals
The first thing many people will do before deciding to go on a vacation is check for cheap hotels.
Cheap hotels are the major driving factor that will decide whether or not someone actually goes
through with the booking. Of course, we are not talking about the elite 1 percent who don t care
about finding the best hotelrates or car rental deals. In fact, for members of the upper class, cheap
hotels are the farthest thing down their list of priorities when booking their annual vacations. In
this case, we are talking about the middle class people who have to count the money in their bank
accounts before making a decision like that.
Speaking from experience, I tend to always start my vacation planning with a search titled Cheap
Hotels . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I m sick and tired of it because the truth is, I could probably never afford these so called best
hotel rates unless I win the lottery. Fat chance! Some cheap hotels like to bundle my car rental
with my hotel booking so that I can benefit from better bundled rates . That couldn t be farther
from the truth. Once, while booking my hotel in Paris, I decided to bundle cheap hotel and car
rental rates. I then compared the DEAL BREAKER! with the rates for booking individually.
Guess what? My cheap hotel ended up costing me approximately 78 dollars less and my car
rental an astonishing 140 dollars less. From my experience, bundling these things to get the best
hotel rates and car rental rates are utterly useless and you end up paying more than you should
have. In my case, I would have shelled out an extra 218 dollars if I wasn t careful. That s insane!
I guess I should stop complaining and get to the point of it. How does one go on a vacation
while on a budget? In my opinion, anyone can. All you need to do is find a cheap hotel and a
good car rental deal. When I say on a budget, I don t mean 50 bucks. For me, anyway, hotels seem
to account for the largest portion of my travel expense. I always try to find cheap hotels, but how
cheap can cheap get when you re travelling to Paris? A few days stay in a cheap hotel can easily set
me back 500 dollars, if not more. I still haven t mentioned the car rental either. I like a nice hotel

The Special Education System Essays
Through my advocacy work, I have found that teachers are not providing students with disabilities
individualized attention as outlined in a student s Individual Education plan. Teachers continue to
follow instructions from administrators to place the burden of education on the student causing
students anxiety and frustrating despite knowing such treatment is wrong and inhumane. The
treatment often results in elevated high schooldropout rates of students with disabilities.
It is hard to understand why a teacher may treat a student, who is obviously willing to learn, in such
a manner. The Asch ConformityExperiment is a good example; making it easier to understand the
behavior or a group of educators. In the experiment, a participant ... Show more content on

Although the teacher provided the information, the family was asked not to bring up how he or she
came to the knowledge to any staff members or in a meeting with other staff persons present. The
teacher was fearful for the possible repercussions of going against what the group had decided were
an appropriate intervention for the student. The teacher informed the family that the entire team
was well versed on the student s lack of skills. Nevertheless, that the protocol in the building,
handed down by the administration was to first, blame the student, second, blame the parents, and
finally recommend the child be placed on medication before he or she could return to school. The
education team was instructed that if they chose not to conform their duties at the school would be
promptly terminated. The teachers conformed for fear of losing their jobs.
Although teachers are charged with the duty of educating young people, they are still human
beings. Maslow s Hierarchy of Needs (Cherry K., 2012) describes what could be a driving force
behind behavior that from an outside perspective would be seen as inappropriate at best. Most
teachers are college educated ; in Massachusetts, most districts require teachers to hold Master s

Curiosity In Fitcher s Bird
In Fitcher s Bird, Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm emphasize that curiosity [gives] no rest as the women
could not contain their suspicions of what was behind the door of the locked room (Bird 1). The
Grimm brothers provide the reader with a life lesson focusing on how innocence and curiosity can
ultimately lead to your downfall, but with the help of family, you can learn to overcome those
obstacles and prevent those situations from happening again. Although all three sisters gave into
their temptation of curiosity, each individual sister learned that curiosity [kills] the cat and that
people will take advantage of your innocence.

The third sister is the key to the other sisters coming of age process because although they
learned their lesson, the third sister is the one that put their body parts together and got them
back home safely. For example, the Grimm brothers describe the third sister as clever and shy to
separate her from her sisters and their curiosity that got the better of themselves (Bird 2). By
possessing these characteristics, the third sister was able to still see what was behind the locked
door, yet be clever enough to get away with it by carefully [setting] the egg aside , so the egg
would not be stained with the blood of the previous victims (Bird 2). Also, once the third sister
passes the test of not opening the locked room, the sorcerer then made her his wife. Therefore,
the third sister takes over the position of power by making the sorcerer secretly carry his sister s
body parts in a basket back to her home. Because the third sister had the position of power, she
used her sly characteristic as a tool to invite the sorcerer and his gang for a wedding feast that was
actually a lure into a trap to set the house on fire in order to prevent the three sister s situation to

Negative impacts of Dinoflagellate algae: economic, ecologic, and human health hazards
ABSTRACT Increasing pollution both atmospheric and oceanic are encouraging algal growth and
increasing the frequency and geographic range of high density dinoflagellate blooms. Public health
and economic impacts, as well as negative ecological effects of the aquatic environment are
increasing the scientific research done on toxic dinoflagellate species. Contaminated bivalves are
causing paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP) and diarrhetic shellfish poisoning in humans (DSP);
with the number of cases increasing steadily in the last 40 years. Toxins released by certain species
of the phylum dinoflagellate are the cause of this spreading ... Show more content on

Aquaculture has recently started to have major concern surround dinoflagellate species taking
over bioassay tanks, that house several species of finfish that are being decimated by the
presence of one of the thousands of species of dinoflagellates. Finfish, is an important group of
fish to coastal fishing industries who experience damage to the gills from the armored bodies of
dinoflagellate, and the spines extending down the length of their bodies. Table 1 below is a list of
all finish, bivalves, and various oceanic wildlife affected by recent increases in dinoflagellate
populations. (Anderson et al. 1993). In the following review I will cover impacts toxic
dinoflagellate species are having on oceanic organisms and the subsequent effects to aquaculture
and fishing industries, and the reasons for increasing frequencies and densities of toxic blooms.
INCREASING ALGAL BLOOMS Algaepopulation dynamics is based on growth, transportation,
predation, mortality, and dispersion. The success of an algal population depends on the gains and
losses depicted in a basic equation of population dynamics: dN/dt=(Growth+Immigration)

Pocahontas and Powhatan wouldn t meet with them. Pocahontas was 11 years old. When it was

They were planning to execute John Smith, but right when his head was about to get smashed by a

Historians argue about if this event happened or not because some believe that instead of an

The Specter Of Lessons In The Holocaust
The Holocaust has an ambiguity in holding lessons, which appear endless. It reinforces the
justification of the idea that the past holds lessons for the present. It creates the idea that if the
lesson is not learned it is at our peril. However, there is no universal lesson gleaned from the
Holocaust, that is convincing enough to justify the current obsession of studying it. Rather, it is the
collective memory of oppression and the specter of comparison, that has made us chose to believe
that there is a universal lesson to be learned.
The specter of comparisons affects our understanding of the past and the present. The specter the
ghost of the past affects our view of the present, but also the present effects our view of the past.
The Holocaust like other historical events is affected by this specter of comparisons. In
attempting to find lessons in the Holocaust the past becomes haunted by the present. It is looking
at the present with incurable double vision , as we see both the past and the present; it is like
looking through the end of an inverted telescope. This need for lessons is aided by seeing the past
in the present. The search for lessons leaves the danger of getting caught in a loop of the past and
present surrounding the Holocaust. It leaves the possibility of constantly being haunted by the past
and letting past oppressions be our definitions of ourselves in the present.

Gary Soto Happiness
I mention it because, in this story we can find my three main points that I am going to talk about.
Happiness is an important part to be a successful family, because if we are not happy in our
home, with our family, then we will have a hard time to find happiness in our daily life as well. In
Gary Soto s story, when the kid is trying to be the perfect family, as shown in the Tv shows, with
eating dinner and speaking politely to each other. His mother denied his idea really quick so as
you read, he started working. I think he was completely wrong, and he realized that as well after

These three main factors are dependent on each other, and we are missing one part of them, we will
find a hard time to be a successful family. The parallels I can draw from these points are, if we are
close to each other, we will trust and support each other, and when we start to support each other
to overcome the obstacles in life, we will be happier together as a family. That was just one
example of many how they are dependent on each other. Something to notice, is this is my
perspective from what a successful family is, for me, a successful family is not how much
income the family have. However, for me it is about how the family is still together and cannot
be separated no matter the obstacles are. In Garo Soto s story, the kid is just nine years old so he
is not knowledgeable about how the real world works, so when he said: I tried to convince them
that if we improved the way we looked we might get along better in life (30), he was not really
knowledgeable about that it did not matter how they looked or how they behave, as long as they
have each other, they will be fine. Even though he always came up with ideas that his mother

Introduction
Communication problems in the workplace can cost your company productivity and money.
Without efficient communication, your company is unable to exchange information essential to
daily operations and create a communication network..... (Root, n.d.). When you think about
communication in the workplace, as an employee you may not think about what poor
communication can cost the organization you work for. But it not only affects the productivity of
the organization it can be the downfall of the organization. Without effective communication it is
impossible for the organization to run smoothly and in turn be productive with their customers. So
in the end ineffective communication can cause the company to completely fail in providing the
environment necessary for the clientele. In this paper I will analyze the communication issues
and more specifically the top four issues that were prevalent in every organization I worked in as
a nurse. I will also go into detail about those four issues and then at the end I will talk about what I
would do as a leader to correct them.
Analysis of the Communication Issues
When thinking back on the organizations I have worked for, I would have to say that there is one
thing that stood out the most to me and that was issues with communication.

Founded by Russell Little and Robyn Steiner based on rhetoric from Communists and South
American revolutionaries (Suellentrop, 2002), as a result original focus of the small group was
on prison reform. In 1972, an African American and California penal inmate by the name of
Donald DeFreeze escapes from prison and utilizes the SLA as a support network while evading
recapture. By 1973 DeFreeze threatens the life of Steiner, causing her to flee the country, and
subsequently garners the leading role of the SLA. DeFreeze steers the organization down a path of
violence. On November 6, 1973, the SLA shot and killed Marcus Foster, Oakland s

the SLA kidnapped Patty Hearst, during the kidnapping Hearst s fiancГ© was beaten

ransoming Hearst for substantial food donations to the poor by Hearst s family. Following the
ransom being paid, in the sum of a $2 million food donation, Hearst declines her release and
instead adopts the name Tania, for Tania Burke, Che Guevara s lover . (Suellentrop, 2002)
Within two weeks, Hearst is captured on camera as an active participant in an SLA bank

from the window of a van outside (Suellentrop, 2002) in an attempt to aid the escape of two SLA
members who were caught shop lifting. Members of the SLA then underwent a shootout with

relaunching the SLA in 1974. In 1975, the SLA robs the Crocker National Bank and

Reginald Rose s 12 Angry Men
The Sixth Amendment was instituted to protect the rights of the accused, but the play 12 Angry
Men and recent cases, have shown that poverty stricken citizens are treated unjustly by the
American court system. In the play, 12 Angry Men, written by Reginald Rose, a nineteen year
old boy is accused of the murder of his father. Throughout the play, the jurors argue the boy s
innocence and guilt. Juror Four argues that, [...] slums are breeding grounds for criminals [...].
The children that come out of slum backgrounds are potential menaces to society (Rose I. 21).
Juror Four, as well as ten other jurors, all agree that because the boy came from a bad background,
he is destined to be a criminal and should be executed for the murder. This... Show more content on

This sentence was the direct cause of Papa losing a job opportunity that could have turned his

How Legionnaire s Disease Is An Important Public Health...
Introduction
Legionnaire s disease is an important public health problem that can cause substantial morbidity and
mortality.1 This bacterial infection is caused primarily by the gram negative bacteria, Legionella
pneumophila, found in freshwater environments throughout the world. 2, 3
Legionnaires disease was initially described in 1976, after a major respiratory outbreak among
attendees of an American Legion convention.4 L. pneumophila causes a severe inflammatory
pneumonia that primarily affects susceptible patients as a result of advanced age, underlying
debilitating conditions or immunosuppression.5 Environmental risk factors such as cooling towers
or water systems in buildings, including hospitals have been reported as main sources ... Show more

11Macrolides, doxycycline, and quinolones are the most commonly prescribed effective antibiotics,
and preventive measures have been widely adopted in public and private institutions. 12
Public health efforts have largely focused on the identification of outbreaks of legionellosis,
followed by investigation and source control. The recent outbreak in the city of New York has
emphasized the need to recognize Legionnaires disease as a common community and hospital
acquired pneumonia. Health care workers should have a high clinical suspicion of L. pneumophila
in any patient with unexplained pneumonia and risk factors for Legionnaire s disease. Routine
testing has been discouraged for all outpatients with community acquired pneumonia and further
testing should be assessed on a case by case basis. This review summarizes the epidemiology,
pathogenesis, diagnosis and management of Legionnaires disease. A better understanding of the
risks associated with Legionnaires disease would allow state and local entities to better target
preventive measures and improve clinician awareness.

Almost 40 years ago, Legionella pneumophila was initially recognized as the cause of a major
respiratory outbreak among attendees of an American Legion convention at a hotel in
Philadelphia.4 Since the first description of Legionnaire s disease, surveillance schemes have been

name of security and social stability. The Chinese government mandates users of the Internet and e

Components Of An Internal Analysis

of next one in turn. 1.Resources: A company s resources include two types: tangible and intangible.
The former is asset that can be observed and counted, such as, office furniture, production

The Essential Preparation For Life And Career
Ancient and medieval authors believed that the seven liberal arts were propaedeutic to the study of
all topics and matters. Their belief remains evident in our school systems, as many universities and
colleges focus on providing a liberal arts education. In fact, the Dedman College at Southern
Methodist University mentions the importance of a liberal artseducation in their mission statement,
as it is the essential preparation for life and career . The understanding of the seven liberal arts
inspires a broader and more focused study of materials often discussed in classes. Five of the
seven liberal arts can be directly applied to the study of Rural Matters. An understanding of
geometry, arithmetic, and astronomy is essential in gaining a deeper capacity for Rural Matters.
Through Isidore of Seville s Etymologies, we gain the understanding that without logic and
grammar we would not be able to appropriately discuss rural matters.
Isidore of Seville begins book seventeen of Etymologies, as he normally does, with the author and
creator of the topic at hand. Isidore of Seville acknowledges the uncertainty of the creator by
listing the different possibilities. According to the Greeks, Hesiod of Boeotia was the first to make
skill in writing on rural matters a part of the liberal education. According to the Romans, Cato was
the first to treat agriculture, Marcus Terence was the first to refine its study and Vergil exalted it
with the skill of his poetry (PAGE). Isidore explains

The Corrupting Influence Of Corporations On Politics
The Corrupting Influence of Corporations on our Politics
As one of the very first political bosses of the modern era once said, There are two things that are
important in politics. The first is money, and I can t remember the second (Bartlett, 2009). Even
president elect Donald Trump once said in 2015, I gave to many people...When I need something
from them two years later...they are there for me. And that s a broken system (Schwarz, 2015).
The issue of money in politics has been widely recognized for decades by many and little has been
done about it. The president elect recognized it was an issue, yet participated nonetheless.
The elimination of political expenditures by corporations is necessary in order to restore the

People can express their opinion by giving money to some organization or even a political
candidate in order to further their own ideas. Sometimes this medium is the only one where the
feel their voice is actually heard. Therefore, it is logical for people to be allowed to donate to any
organization that they believe shares their deeply held convictions. But contrary to the decision of
Supreme Court in the Citizens United case that Spending is speech, and is therefore protected by
the Constitution even if the speaker is a corporation, corporations are not citizens which should be
protected under the constitution (Dunbar, 2012). They are large entities that are made up of
potentially thousands that could not possibly share all of the same beliefs. Therefore, corporations
should not be allowed to give unlimited sums of money to organizations that then perform
electioneering communications ads that advocate for a candidate s election or defeat (Epstein,
2015). This money is likely coming from the top executives only and does not represent every
single employee or shareholder. This type of donation labels every employee from a corporation as
supporting the recipient of the donation, but that could never be true in a corporation of any
substantial size. This legalization of corruption can be traced back to two landmark Supreme Court
cases: First National Bank of Boston v. Bellotti and Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission
(FEC). The former was the first

The Inner Workings of Congress
The inter workings of Congress have been studied extensively by Richard Fenno and David R.
Mayhew. Mayhew s study of Congress took place in Washington, while Richard Fenno conducted
his research by following politicians within their congressional district. Mayhew attributes three
primary goals to congressmen getting reelected, achieving influence within Congress and making
good Policy . Fenno also attributes three basic goals, having influence inside the House than other
congressmen. Second, helping their constituents and thereby insuring their reelection, and lastly
helping make good policy. The purpose of this paper is to research a member of Congress and to

Are the committee assignments a path for movement within the House or outside? What legislation

Mayhew examines the congressmen activity in Washington that is useful to engage in for the

Socrates was a novel philosopher who challenged the limitations of philosophical thought during his
lifetime. More specifically, Socrates was a key proponent for the idea known as Dualism , in which
the mind (Soul) and the body are not mutually exclusive entices, bur rather interact in a tangible
manner in which they come to have a reciprocated relationship. Throughout many religions and
spiritual movements, Socrates view of a interaction between the immortal souland the physical body
is evident.
The body is considered to be an obstacle to the afterlife and play no part in gain of knowledge

Persuasive Essay About Martial Arts
Earlier in my book, i gave a list of reasons why martial arts fail to prepare people for self defense.
I will elaborate on the topic in this chapter. Bruce Lee said it and now i m going to repeat it
styles limit minds! Think about it. You pay for a class in Wing Chun, Wushu, Krav Maga, Judo,
or any style and what do you learn? Forms, drills, techniques, moves, and rules. You spend
countless hours practicing forms, never knowing what they are for. You spend almost no time
applying them completely in combat. You are enslaved by the art. You get a slap on the wrist if
you try to do anything outside of what the style entails. Too fat and don t have enough muscle?
You ll get told to hit the gym. Too muscular? That s bad for your techniques as big muscles slow
you down. What if you have the potential to be one of the fastest or greatest strikers in the world?
What if you have the potential to put your brute strength excellent use in addition to performing
the art? What if you could still fight at lightning speed despite your large size? What if you have
the potential to do something extraordinary that s never been done before? How do you figure out
a way to accomplish all of that? Certainly not in your local martial artsschool!
The only way to find out is to research what each style has to offer, take what you find useful from
each one, modify it, and discard the rest. In doing so, you create balance. You practice during
training to make your ideas work. You could try

Difference Between Cultural Relativism And Absolutism
Cultures vary in behavior, habits, attitudes, beliefs, languages, etc. Absolutism is regarded by
everyone and is not limited by anything. Relativism is regarded by everyone in the same manner
such that it is not limited by people, situations, time, or location. There are distinct anthropological
facts that support both cultural relativism and absolutism with respect to moralprinciples.
Moral principles within cultural relativism do vary and any given culture believe theirs is the true
moral value. Three anthropological facts outlined by relativism are as follows.
1.In relation to customs, manners, taboos, religions, moralities, habits, and attitudes there is a large
deviation between cultures.

Citizens of a given culture believe that the moralities that they uphold and live by are the only true
morals.
Problems that may arise from relativism may occur when a particular cultures tries to enforce their
beliefs, values or laws onto another society or culture and condemn that culture for not adhering to
their moral values and punishing by engaging in terroristic threats or warfare. Further, a tradition
may be considered right or wrong in one culture but the opposite in another, since there is no
superior authority we cannot say whether any given tradition is indeed right or wrong.
Moral principles within cultural absolutism do not vary and all cultures follow the same moral
values. Four anthropological facts outlined by absolutism are as follows.
1.Principles of what is right and wrong are consistent across all cultures, including but not limited to
preservation of human life, honesty, respect for elders, sexual conduct, taking responsibility for
personal actions.
2.The needs of citizens are similar across all cultures; consumption of food and clean water, shelter,

The decision to invade North Africa reflected the triumph of British strategic arguments over those
of the Americans as the Americans were pushing for an invasion in northern France as early as
1942. American military leadership, however, was not sold on the logic or necessity of a North
African campaign. General George C. Marshall, the architect of American military strategy, wanted
no part of a US commitment to a Mediterranean campaign. The decision to commit American
troops in North Africa came directly from President Roosevelt, who overruled the advice of
Marshall and his military advisers on this point.
b.As the operation began, the Americans and British hoped the French would not resist the Allied

order to facilitate these hopes, the Allies designated General Dwight D. Eisenhower to command
the invasion forces. With an American general leading the forces, the Allies sought to restrict any

significant other. I have also seen this happen where a friend of mines was friends with a girl that
had a boyfriend and he also had a girlfriend but now they were so close that their friendship has
turned into a relationship. I feel as though if everyone knows the other persons intention it will be
less difficult, even though sometimes their intentions often change.
Communicating with a person of the opposite sex about how you feel emotionally often helps
because something you would not feel comfortable with just venting to the same sex. Although
men seem strong and nothing ever phases them it is important to have a friend for emotional
support. Often men go through things that hit them emotionally and it is better to have a female
to vent to rather than another male. This is shown when someone loses a family or a tragic
situation of that sort, sure your buddies can give you a word of encouragement but to tell someone
how you feel deep down inside it is helpful to have a female to talk to. Often women are more
comfortable to talk to than a guy about something a male is going through on an emotional level.
Emotionally, females feel as though men create a safer environment because often times it is hard

Passenger Pigeons In America
Passenger Pigeon The world has experienced many mass extinctions within its lifetime. More and
more are occuring today with the help of homo sapiens. Everyone in the modern age has heard of
the most recent extinction of the white rhino, that was hunted for their prized horns. However, not
many have heard of the passenger pigeons claim to fame. There was an overabundance of them in
the United States, particularly in eastern North America. Passenger pigeons had been in America
before the Europeans dropped by and the United States was not even an idea yet. Following the
colonization of America was the deconstruction of the passenger pigeon s habitat and then
eventually pigeons attacking the crops belonging to the farmers for provisions. They would fly in
gargantuan flocks that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
With the new developments in human technology throughout the years, like the train, hunting
these animals became easier to accomplish. Hunters would travel from all over the US and
Canada to get a piece of the creatures with the delectable meat. Nevertheless, this species might
have been able to survive the slaughter of man if it were not for the fact that these hunters
disrupted their breeding and nesting grounds. In 1900, Republican Congressman John F. Lacey
of Iowa introduced the nation s first wildlife protection law, which banned the interstate shipping
of unlawfully killed game. That year Congress passed the Lacey Act, followed by the tougher
Weeks McLean Act in 1913 and, five years later, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, which protected
not just birds but also their eggs, nests, and feathers. However it was too late for the passenger
pigeons, all the flocks were dying out and only Martha, a 29 year old pigeon in the Cincinnati zoo
remained. That was of course until 1914 when she passed, ending the

Rrw02 Week 1 Assignment
During my INRW 0302 class, the professor helped me to get into the internship. That internship
helps me learn about our career before taking the class. Unfortunately, the internship was not
completed is because I was too late to tell the employer about my driver license number. As the
result, they did not call me to work and I really feel nothing to worry about; because they can just
contact me after the holiday. If they did not call me; there is nothing for me to worry about. To

the minimax search algorithm to search through the huge tree of possible moves. Another
interesting topic that I learned in the video is object code. Object code is the output of a compiler

computer program. A compiler is a conversion of source code into object code. Object code is
usually a CPU, but sometimes it designed to convert source code into an assembly language or into

working as a musician in New Orleans. He wanted to two hire Austrian DJs and rent a venue for
a local jazz fest but he didn t have enough money. Indeed, this is when he began thinking what if
people can go to a site and buy tickets for the show? . However, for seven years Chen did not
know if and how should he start a site similar to his idea, and he also wanted to continue with his
career. In fact, between 2001 and 2009, he had several jobs, including disc jockey, waiter, and

Okonkwo Falling Apart
I always judge a book starting from its cover. And I could find nothing fancy to say about this one.
When I was informed that I should read four boring novels in one month, I joked around, Yeah, I m
falling apart indeed.
Okonkwo was a wealthy and respected warrior of the Umuofia clan, a lower Nigerian tribe that is
a part of a consortium of nine connected villages. He is haunted by his cowardly father who died
in shame and left many debts for him to cover. However, Okonkwo did not narrow down his path
for the horrible things his father had done, but instead took a important position in the collective
community and was highly valued.
He had his own farm and grow his own yams, had separate little huts for his three wives, a son

But in vain, he constantly beats up his wives and kids. For lame reasons like forgot to make
dinner or killed a leaf to wipe the table. Often there were no reason, or because he felt like it. He
didn t like to be thought weak, so he had to make that impression by showing his anger, his
toughness. Which is always a mistake.
He isn t a dreadful man or a hard hearted villain. When the village elders decided they should have
Ikemefuna, the lad from another tribe who Okonkwo treats as a son, killed, Okonkwo was shocked,
disturbed but couldn t stand being thought weak, so he killed Ikemefuna with his own hands,
burying any dints of regret or solitude to himself.
Not long after, he accidently killed a member of the community and was sent away to live with his
mother s tribe for seven years as a cruel punishment. All his dreams broke down into fragments of
glass, which hurts to step upon. However, he was not the kind to give up. Even after his only son
betrayed him with the Christians, he didn t fall apart. He held things tightly together and stubbornly

President John F. Kennedy And Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.
Former President John F. Kennedy and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., gave the world two of the
most iconic and historic speech in American history. In January of 1961, John F. Kennedy gave
his infamous Inaugural Address. Not even heavy snow fall could deter JFK s inaugural address.
His mission was to reassure the American citizens their strengths and at the same time, motivate
them to inspired the world. One of the most famous phrases for Kennedy s speech, And so, my
fellow Americans: ask not what your country can do for you ask what you can do for your
country. One the other hand, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. speech I Have a Dream is a public
speech during the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom. King was one of the most famous
American civil rights activist. His mission for this iconic speech, was a call for an end to racism in
the United Statesof America. Thus, this speech was a defining moment in the civil rights
movement and was done so, at the Lincoln Memorial. Dr. King was a Baptist minister and was
the driving force behind the civil rights movement. He demanded justice for the unjustly. Mainly
the people of color. Both men, Dr. King and Mr. Kennedy, had some what of the same visions of
America. Their goals for America in their speech demanded peace and prosperity. Kennedy said,

Gymnastics Springboard
The topic of this experiment is to determine which type of gymnastics springboard will give the
highest elevation. There are two types of springboards used in vaulting the traditional springboard
and the air board. Based on research the hypothesis states that if a gymnast jumps on an air board
then the heightoff the board will be higher than if jumping on a traditional springboard.
To begin with, the vault has been in the Olympics for men since 1896 and for women since
1952. The vault requires a gymnast to run down a runway, jump on a springboard, and flip over
the vault table. The springboard is a very important piece in the vault. It is made up of a platform
and springs and is used to help get the gymnast up in the air. This experiment was chosen to
determine if one type of springboard gives and advantage over the other. ... Show more content on

Both the traditional and air springboards are widely used and sanctioned by USAG guidelines.
The traditional springboard uses up to six vertical springs while the air board uses up to 40
horizontal springs. Gymnasts appear to defy gravity when they are doing their flips but it is really
physics and Newton s 3rd Law in action. When a gymnast jumps on a springboard the springs
compress and then decompress pushing the gymnast into the air. This is an example of Newton s
3rd Law of Motion which states that every action has an equal but opposite reaction (tackk.com

energy. When the gymnast jumps on the springboard it turns into kinetic energy and causes the
board to push the gymnast up. The larger number of springs in the air board have more potential
energy which leads to the hypothesis that it will provide the greatest

At 12:30 A.M. on March 3, 1991, Tim and Melanie Singer, a married team of the California
Highway Patrol, noticed a Hyundai speeding along the Foothill Freeway in northeastern L.A. The
car belonged to Rodney Glen King, a native Californian who had recently been released from
prison for threatening and assaulting a storeowner. Immediately, the Singers exited the highway,
returned behind King s vehicle, and began to pursue at speeds up to 117 mph. After nearly causing
multiple accidents, King finally came to a stop outside Hansen Dam Park. Within seconds, Officers

And although the economic injustices are already prevalent and disturbing, the numbers continue
and grow even more astonishing. While 19.8% of white children lived in poverty, the rate reached
a ridiculous 38.2% for African American children during the same time. Unemployment also
plagued the area and increased significantly during the late 80s and early 90s. As large
manufacturers such as Firestone, Goodyear, and Bethlehem Steel departed South Central L.A.,
residents were forced to find alternative sources for jobs, a task that proved to be extremely
difficult (Tucker Jr.). This truth was only accentuated by the lack of transit, which prevented many
from getting jobs far from their communities ( 1992 Los Angeles Riots ). Consequently, from June
1990 to February 1992 (20 months), more than 300,000 jobs were lost, a number that accounted
for 60% of the all the jobs lot in California during that time. This means that over 20 jobs were lost

Compare And Contrast Colerridge And Wordsworth
Imagery has been one of the most pivotal movements in the cultural and intellectual history of
English Literature. The comparison is not only among the works of their own rather it also
includes the differences and traces of similarity with the works of others writers of different ages.
The analysis is done by reading the actual text and interpreting the meaning by understanding the
deep phrases hidden in the poetry. Different critics showed different aspects by their research.
Some found out merits and some found out demerits in the works of Wordsworth and Coleridge.
The merits includes uniqueness, healing power of poetry, and interpretation of their imagination
for things whereas the demerits include slack of humour, lack of range and lyricism in their
poetry. On a whole Wordsworth and Coleridge works have gained lot of interest and tempted many
critics to write on their methods and strategies which they adopted in their work. A new chapter in
the history of English poetry opened with the publication of Lyrical Ballads which were the results
of Wordsworth and Coleridge friendship after the revolution. They included two different kinds of
poetry in these ballets. Wordsworth talked about the subjects that were chosen from ordinary life

Punishment And The Criminal Justice System
If we accept that punishment is justified in certain circumstances, then, ideally, it should only be
incurred by individuals whose actions warrant punishment. I think, at least amongst civilised
society, this opinion cannot be disputed. The difficult question is not whether punishment should be
deserved, but when punishmentshould be deserved. The quotation above suggests that in order to be
worthy of punishment, the defendant must have consciously chosen to have committed the wrong
of which he or she stands accused. However, as the UK criminal justicesystem demonstrates, strict
compliance with this principle is often impractical. This essay will investigate the legislation that
seems to challenge the conscious choice principle, before considering whether or not this legislation
compromises the value of the criminal justice system.
Before we contemplate the types of behaviour that deserve punishment, it is essential that we
understand why deserved punishment is a fundamental premise of the criminal justice system. In
order to do this, we will need to consider the different justifications for punishment. As Wilson
considers, theories of punishment have historically fallen into one of two categories ; they can be
identified as either a retributive theory or a utilitarian (consequentialist) theory.[1] Retributive
theories suggest that punishment can only be justified if the punishment itself has some inherent
moral value; it cannot be made right by its positive

Muscular Dystrophy And Its Effects On The Body
Muscular dystrophy is a group of diseases that cause an abnormal progressive deteriorating of the
muscles, leading to muscle weakness. Many different types of dystrophy are known, characterized
by the muscle groups affected. The disease is caused from a genetic mutation that prevents a
protein essential for normal muscleactivity from being made, or being produced correctly. In each
type of muscular dystrophy, a different protein is irregular (Emery, 2008). Furthermore, because this
disease is due to a genetic mutation, there is no cure to fix the mutation. Therefore treatment is used
to attend to the problems caused by the dystrophy and treatment strives to create a pleasant life for
the patient. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, treatment
methods include multiple types of therapy, including respiratory, physical, speech, drug, and
occupational, as well as surgery (NINDS, 2011). Hydrotherapy, a type of physical therapy in water
and its effects on muscular dystrophy patients will be focused on in the succeeding study.
BACKGROUND:
The most common muscular dystrophy is Duchenne dystrophy (Emery 2008). Due to a genetic
defect only on the X chromosome, this disease is present primarily in males. The University of
California Los Angeles found the occurrence at 1 out of every 5000 males in countries that provide
genetic counseling (UCLA). The protein discovered that is absent is dystrophin, a protein essential

The Appalachian Trail is the longest continuously maintained foot trail in the world. The trail was

During the backpacking boom of the 1970s when there was a growing understanding about the
natural environment beginning to be consumed at what had appeared to be an alarming rate,
many groups of people began to take on the trail for long periods of time. (Cosmo) Trails that
were previously only visited by few people because very well known locations. During this time,
there was very little maintainance of the trails and even less education of visitors. People were
hiking merely to take a break from the world around them. What was once an experience where
solitude was virtually guaranteed, became more and more a social event as more and more of us
tried to. (Cosmo) After some time, many hikers and trail managers grew concerned about the future
of the trail and began trying to accommodate the growing number of hikers, while also protecting
the Trails natural environment. After starting to upgrade popular campsites and trails to make them
more durable, most hikers began to gain knowledge about how to take care of the trails while
enjoying them. Since the 1980 s the AT has been managed so that Hiker regulations will be kept as
unrestrictive as possible, and should be developed only to the extent they are proven necessary to
protect the physical trail, its environment, and the interests of adjacent landowners. (from the

Essay about Travels of a T-Shirt Review
Travels of a t shirt in a global economy In her book, The Travels of a T shirt in the Global
Economy, Pietra Rivoli takes on the intricacies and complexities of trade and globalization
through following the path of a T Shirt she purchased from Walgreens for $5.99. It is a very
informative book and her writing is such that the reader is left feeling both well informed on the
issues discussed, as well as entertained. Rivoli breaks up the book into 4 sections. In Part I, King
Cotton, we are brought to an area in West Texas, an area that boasts to be home to much of the
world s cotton. In fact, the main city, Lubbock, calls itself the cottonest city in the world (Rivoli

I think it also works to undo the notions that China was stealing away all our jobs in the apparel
arena, because despite the complex protectionist measures taken, America still lost lots of jobs
in the textile industry. The author points out that this is because of technology, and that when it
really comes down to it, China is losing their textile jobs at a rate faster than the U.S. did (142).
She also goes over some of the unintended consequences of the measures such as increased
material costs as a result of the increased import barrier (142). She also suggests in this section as
an alternative to erecting trade barriers, to instead compensate workers of the losing industries,
known as the compensation principle (151). Lastly, with the lift of the measures and quotas by
2005, there will be a new surge in Chinese goods to America, as illustrated in figure 9.1, page

Part IV of the book, My T shirt Finally Encounters a Free Market. This section deals with what
happens to the clothes after they are discarded, usually through donation to Goodwill or The

Catullus Metaphors
The fruits of the magna mater are also evident in c.48. Again, Catullus carefully places his
agricultural simile in the latter half of the poem to establish an implied spatial contrast between the
urbs and saltus. But there is an essential difference here. While before the poet used the pastoral to
describe the unquantifiable, the omnipresence of Lesbia and of Rome, here we encounter a
numerical limit to the milia [basia] trecenta (3). Not only does this value directly respond to the
problem of c.5, the infinity of loveand the rest of the Lesbia basia poems , but it also highlights
another way in which Catullus may use this mode; that is, as a tool for fiscal and quantitative
civilising/Romanising forces. This notion is stressed through the alliteration aridis aristis / sit (5/6),
which works across the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Fordyce calls this a genuine archaism that recalls similar paratactic uses in Greek which are
commonly found in hymns see Callimachus Hymn IV:39 40 . While the pueri may have won, the
puellae s appreciation for rural aesthetic and value has almost been gospelised. Associating archaic
vocabulary with the ancient times means that Catullus may glorify the pastoral not only morally but
also in the kind of existence he would like to live. The fact that this lifestyle was associated with
Romulus and Remus, suggests that Catullus highlights the widespread misappropriation of this
ideal with the insulting direct address cinaede Romule (5/9) in c.29 . Crucially, cinaedus is male
sexual term which means that this kind of imperial sex is essentially unreproductive; performed for
pleasure, not primeval necessity, in the same way that Mentula uses his land. The opprobia
(c.28:15) this brings onto the founders of this city, poisons Roman conservatism and any belief in a

Laughter In The BirdsBy Bergson sThe Birds
Now, using Bergson s theory of laughter to analyze The Birds, it confirms the previously stated
hypothesis, that the play applies as an aspect of Anthropocene laughter. The points made in the
paragraphs above are extremely evident all throughout the text of the play. In The Birds, the two
main characters, Pisthetaerus and Euelpides are fleeing Athens because of its current problematic
status in politics, in search for something better, where they can have a brand new beginning. The
two men sought out a new city, built by the influential birds, that was not tainted by man and his all
too powerful hand. This is already quite similar to that of the Anthropocene, an age of wanting and
needing change in order to survive after being naГЇve to humankind s power of destruction. This is
an example of imitation, something that sparks laughter as stated by Bergson. This telling
statement from The Birds confirms this: Weak mortals, chained to the earth, creatures of clay as
frail as the foliage of the woods, you unfortunate race, whose life is but darkness, as unreal as
shadow, the illusion of a dream, hearken to us, who are immortal beings (75). There is laughter
within this because it reflects aspects of humankind. In order to even understand the comedyin this
play, a degree of intelligence is absolutely necessary. Aristophanes makes little jokes everywhere,
for example that fact that those in power are birds and the names of the main characters. This is
something an ordinary person

  • 2. Alaska Glacial Retreat And Acidification Impacts On... AGLACIER: Alaska GLacial retreat ACidification Impacts on Ecosystem Resilience The EPSCoR Overarching Question is: How can we understand regime shifts and tipping points in large scale ecosystems in Alaska. The theme we will address is: Coastal margins and marine living resources. Overarching Goal: This proposed EPSCoR will focus on the impact of glacial melt on the physics and chemistry of the marine environment, and their consequences for the intertidal and coastal biological communities. Objectives: 1)Build on historical ecological data that describes the physical, biological, and chemical variability of Kachemak Bay, a subarctic biodiversity hot spot. 2)Determine the mechanisms that relate the present and anticipated future variability in glacial dynamics to shifts in coastal ecosystem structure and function using laboratory and field experimentation, observations, and modeling. Question: How is variability in current and future glacial input to the marine environment influencing the structure and function of coastal marine ecosystems via changes to the physical and chemical environment (i.e., temperature, salinity, stratification, turbidity, pH and the carbonate saturation state)? Intellectual merit: Healthy coastal marine ecosystems are critically important to America s ecology, economy, and standard of living. While Alaska contains nearly half of the nation s coastline, we have little understanding of how future climate variability will impact ecological ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Causes And Effects Of Absenteeism One of the easiest ways to succeed at a job is to simply show up and do your job. For some people, it s not very easy to show up for work. There are numerous reasons, some valid and some not, for people not showing up to work. Whether it s is illness, or family responsibilities, or change of weather, people will always find a reason for not being at work. Showing up for work when you are supposed to and on time is not only highly beneficial for your employer, but for you personally as well. However, most employees do not realize the effects of absenteeism. Absenteeism is an employee s willful or habitual absence from work. While employers expect workers to miss a certain number of workdays each year, excessive absences can equate to decreased productivity and can have a major effect on company finances, morale and other factors. This passage looks at the causes of absenteeism, the costs of lost productivity and what employers can do to reduce absenteeism rates in the workplace. People miss work for a variety of reasons, many of which are legitimate and others not so much. Some of the basic causes of absenteeism include Bullying and Harassment of Employees who are bullied and/or harassed by coworkers and/or by their bosses are more than likely to call in sick to avoid the situation Burnout, stress and low morale, Heavy workloads, stressful meetings/presentations and feelings of being unacknowledged can cause employees to avoid going into work. • 4. The Children And Where Are You Going In the stories The Children and Where are You Going, Where Have You Been, both authors captivates their audience through similar contexts. Both authors intrigued the audiences of juveniles because their characters consist of ages between 13 to 18. They reached out to the younger generations to teach a lesson of how quickly one could become lost within society. Society makes a person lose value in their culture and familyvirtue. The Children of Julie Otsuka, took place from the fields of Japan to the wide open range of North America. Japanese mothers wanted a better life for their offspring so they took their belongings and left their spouse. Mothers not only packed their personal items, but their cultural traditions as well. As time ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... They forget the names of the flowers in Japanese. They forgot the names of the fox god and the thunder god... (Otsuka 1072). The children were bewildered by their mother s speech that they began to act as if they did not understand the language spoken. The children did not speak their native tongue because it was not the language spoken in America. They wanted to adapt so quickly to a common culture since the children are tired of being an outcast. Consequently, Japanese children did not want to be a Japanese native anymore when they observed the life of an American child. They compared their horrific lifestyle to the luxury of an American. Otsuka illustrates an American house as ... fancy white houses with gold framed mirrors and crystal doorknobs and porcelain toilets that flushed with the yank of a chain...there were mattresses stuffed with hard metal springs that were somehow as soft as a cloud (Otsuka 1069). She did not illustrate a Japanese home to her readers because they are rarely at home. The mothers work in the fields as she watches her children play quietly outside. They did not sleep on plush mattresses, but wooden boards covered with hay (Otsuka 1067). One character traveled to the city to work as a maid and agreed that the beds were soft. They children did not enjoy the differences in cultures. As they work countless hours with their mothers, others do not even observe the sun rising because they stay at home ... We learn of the captain s elaborate plan to hide Legatt to avoid his capture. First, he takes Legatt, the arrested first mate, under his wing and instead of arresting him, like he should, he tells him to hide in his quarters, and throughout the tale, we see Legatt nearly being captured multiple times, such as when the captain is asked where his coat is, and one of his crewmen reply that it was in his quarters in the bathroom, to which the captain suddenly goes into a cold sweat, worrying he might be found out if Legatt is seen. Walking to the taffrail, I was in time to make out, on the very edge of a darkness thrown by a towering black mass like the very gateway of Erebus yes, I was in time to catch an evanescent glimpse of my white hat left behind to mark the spot where the secret sharer of my cabin and of my thoughts, as though he were my second self, had lowered himself into the water to take his punishment: a free man, a proud swimmer striking out for a new destiny. (Conrad 193) What does this mean?: In short, the captain remembers the person who was in his cabin, Legatt, and since he was a former first mate, he is similar to the captain. The last line signifies that Legatt has moved on to a new life. Throughout the story, we see the captain refer to Legatt as his second self, or double, but I think that the reason that he calls him double is because he s looking at himself and who he used to ... Adenosine binds onto receptors on the brain cells, which causes people to feel the tiredness and laziness; however, because the two molecules are very similar, caffeine too is able to blockthe receptors. The excess adenosine is converted into adrenaline which most people are used to experiencing when drinking coffee, a sense of alertness and energy for about 4 6 hours. It also helps the natural stimulants work better, so, in a way, caffeine is a stimulant for stimulants. All of this information culminates in the fact that these stimulants that are activated due to the caffeine are what cause the heart to beat rapidly, either too fast for the daphnia to survive, or just enough that they are more active, like humans are when ingesting caffeine. • 7. The Best Hotel Rates Or Car Rental Deals The first thing many people will do before deciding to go on a vacation is check for cheap hotels. Cheap hotels are the major driving factor that will decide whether or not someone actually goes through with the booking. Of course, we are not talking about the elite 1 percent who don t care about finding the best hotelrates or car rental deals. In fact, for members of the upper class, cheap hotels are the farthest thing down their list of priorities when booking their annual vacations. In this case, we are talking about the middle class people who have to count the money in their bank accounts before making a decision like that. Speaking from experience, I tend to always start my vacation planning with a search titled Cheap Hotels . ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I m sick and tired of it because the truth is, I could probably never afford these so called best hotel rates unless I win the lottery. Fat chance! Some cheap hotels like to bundle my car rental with my hotel booking so that I can benefit from better bundled rates . That couldn t be farther from the truth. Once, while booking my hotel in Paris, I decided to bundle cheap hotel and car rental rates. I then compared the DEAL BREAKER! with the rates for booking individually. Guess what? My cheap hotel ended up costing me approximately 78 dollars less and my car rental an astonishing 140 dollars less. From my experience, bundling these things to get the best hotel rates and car rental rates are utterly useless and you end up paying more than you should have. In my case, I would have shelled out an extra 218 dollars if I wasn t careful. That s insane! I guess I should stop complaining and get to the point of it. How does one go on a vacation while on a budget? In my opinion, anyone can. All you need to do is find a cheap hotel and a good car rental deal. When I say on a budget, I don t mean 50 bucks. For me, anyway, hotels seem to account for the largest portion of my travel expense. I always try to find cheap hotels, but how cheap can cheap get when you re travelling to Paris? A few days stay in a cheap hotel can easily set me back 500 dollars, if not more. I still haven t mentioned the car rental either. I like a nice hotel ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

A) It involves listening to people with a sense of compassion, sincerity, and concernment. * With the statistics presented earlier on the percentage of families that are hungry but still have homes, it really touched me in the way that a hungry person could be someone that I know or care about. B) Among the benefits, empathetic listening builds: * Builds trust and respect * Enables the disputants to release their emotions, * Reduces tensions * Encourages the surfacing of information, and * Creates a safe environment that is conducive to collaborative problem solving. The Special Education System Essays Through my advocacy work, I have found that teachers are not providing students with disabilities individualized attention as outlined in a student s Individual Education plan. Teachers continue to follow instructions from administrators to place the burden of education on the student causing students anxiety and frustrating despite knowing such treatment is wrong and inhumane. The treatment often results in elevated high schooldropout rates of students with disabilities. The success of an algal population depends on the gains and losses depicted in a basic equation of population dynamics: dN/dt=(Growth+Immigration) (Predation+Mortality+Dispersion). • 14. The Specter Of Lessons In The Holocaust The Holocaust has an ambiguity in holding lessons, which appear endless. It reinforces the justification of the idea that the past holds lessons for the present. It creates the idea that if the lesson is not learned it is at our peril. However, there is no universal lesson gleaned from the Holocaust, that is convincing enough to justify the current obsession of studying it. Rather, it is the collective memory of oppression and the specter of comparison, that has made us chose to believe that there is a universal lesson to be learned. The specter of comparisons affects our understanding of the past and the present. The specter the ghost of the past affects our view of the present, but also the present effects our view of the past. The Holocaust like other historical events is affected by this specter of comparisons. In attempting to find lessons in the Holocaust the past becomes haunted by the present. It is looking at the present with incurable double vision , as we see both the past and the present; it is like looking through the end of an inverted telescope. This need for lessons is aided by seeing the past in the present. The search for lessons leaves the danger of getting caught in a loop of the past and present surrounding the Holocaust. It leaves the possibility of constantly being haunted by the past and letting past oppressions be our definitions of ourselves in the present. Christopher Browning is haunted by the past. Happiness is an important part to be a successful family, because if we are not happy in our home, with our family, then we will have a hard time to find happiness in our daily life as well. In Gary Soto s story, when the kid is trying to be the perfect family, as shown in the Tv shows, with eating dinner and speaking politely to each other. His mother denied his idea really quick so as you read, he started working. I think he was completely wrong, and he realized that as well after a while. These three main factors are dependent on each other, and we are missing one part of them, we will find a hard time to be a successful family. The parallels I can draw from these points are, if we are close to each other, we will trust and support each other, and when we start to support each other to overcome the obstacles in life, we will be happier together as a family. That was just one example of many how they are dependent on each other. Something to notice, is this is my perspective from what a successful family is, for me, a successful family is not how much income the family have. However, for me it is about how the family is still together and cannot be separated no matter the obstacles are. In Garo Soto s story, the kid is just nine years old so he is not knowledgeable about how the real world works, so when he said: I tried to convince them that if we improved the way we looked we might get along better in life (30), he was not really knowledgeable about that it did not matter how they looked or how they behave, as long as they have each other, they will be fine. Their belief remains evident in our school systems, as many universities and colleges focus on providing a liberal arts education. In fact, the Dedman College at Southern Methodist University mentions the importance of a liberal artseducation in their mission statement, as it is the essential preparation for life and career . The understanding of the seven liberal arts inspires a broader and more focused study of materials often discussed in classes. Five of the seven liberal arts can be directly applied to the study of Rural Matters. An understanding of geometry, arithmetic, and astronomy is essential in gaining a deeper capacity for Rural Matters. Isidore of Seville begins book seventeen of Etymologies, as he normally does, with the author and creator of the topic at hand. Isidore of Seville acknowledges the uncertainty of the creator by listing the different possibilities. Mayhew attributes three primary goals to congressmen getting reelected, achieving influence within Congress and making good Policy . Fenno also attributes three basic goals, having influence inside the House than other congressmen. Second, helping their constituents and thereby insuring their reelection, and lastly helping make good policy. The purpose of this paper is to research a member of Congress and to make a direct connection between his activity in Washington and his home district. The paper will answer whether the congressmen is a delegate or trustee. Are the actions a pursuit for reelection? Are the committee assignments a path for movement within the House or outside? What legislation has he/she sponsored or co sponsored and does it directly reflect his/her districts political view. And finally, do major industries and interest groups within his/she district affect the way he/she votes. Mayhew examines the congressmen activity in Washington that is useful to engage in for the purpose of reelection. The first activity is advertising, defined by making a conscious effort to disseminate one s name in a positive light among constituents to gain a favorable view. Bruce Lee said it and now i m going to repeat it styles limit minds! Think about it. You pay for a class in Wing Chun, Wushu, Krav Maga, Judo, or any style and what do you learn? Forms, drills, techniques, moves, and rules. You spend countless hours practicing forms, never knowing what they are for. You spend almost no time applying them completely in combat. You are enslaved by the art. You get a slap on the wrist if you try to do anything outside of what the style entails. Too fat and don t have enough muscle? You ll get told to hit the gym. Too muscular? That s bad for your techniques as big muscles slow you down. What if you have the potential to be one of the fastest or greatest strikers in the world? What if you have the potential to put your brute strength excellent use in addition to performing the art? What if you could still fight at lightning speed despite your large size? What if you have the potential to do something extraordinary that s never been done before? How do you figure out a way to accomplish all of that? Certainly not in your local martial artsschool! The defeat suffered by the Allies had nothing to do with right versus wrong, but was very much a product of a number of operational shortcomings on the part of the Allies. The decision to invade North Africa reflected the triumph of British strategic arguments over those of the Americans as the Americans were pushing for an invasion in northern France as early as 1942. American military leadership, however, was not sold on the logic or necessity of a North African campaign. General George C. Marshall, the architect of American military strategy, wanted no part of a US commitment to a Mediterranean campaign. The decision to commit American troops in North Africa came directly from President Roosevelt, who overruled the advice of Marshall and his military advisers on this point. b.As the operation began, the Americans and British hoped the French would not resist the Allied landings, and further expected French forces in North Africa would rejoin the anti Axis alliance. In order to facilitate these hopes, the Allies designated General Dwight D. Eisenhower to command the invasion forces. With an American general leading the forces, the Allies sought to restrict any resistance from Anglophobic French officials and officers in the areas around the invasion beaches and ports. • 47. Punishment And The Criminal Justice System If we accept that punishment is justified in certain circumstances, then, ideally, it should only be incurred by individuals whose actions warrant punishment. I think, at least amongst civilised society, this opinion cannot be disputed. The difficult question is not whether punishment should be deserved, but when punishmentshould be deserved. The quotation above suggests that in order to be worthy of punishment, the defendant must have consciously chosen to have committed the wrong of which he or she stands accused. However, as the UK criminal justicesystem demonstrates, strict compliance with this principle is often impractical. This essay will investigate the legislation that seems to challenge the conscious choice principle, before considering whether or not this legislation compromises the value of the criminal justice system. Before we contemplate the types of behaviour that deserve punishment, it is essential that we understand why deserved punishment is a fundamental premise of the criminal justice system. In order to do this, we will need to consider the different justifications for punishment. As Wilson considers, theories of punishment have historically fallen into one of two categories ; they can be identified as either a retributive theory or a utilitarian (consequentialist) theory.[1] Retributive theories suggest that punishment can only be justified if the punishment itself has some inherent moral value; it cannot be made right by its positive ... Many different types of dystrophy are known, characterized by the muscle groups affected. The disease is caused from a genetic mutation that prevents a protein essential for normal muscleactivity from being made, or being produced correctly. In each type of muscular dystrophy, a different protein is irregular (Emery, 2008). Furthermore, because this disease is due to a genetic mutation, there is no cure to fix the mutation. Therefore treatment is used to attend to the problems caused by the dystrophy and treatment strives to create a pleasant life for the patient. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, treatment methods include multiple types of therapy, including respiratory, physical, speech, drug, and occupational, as well as surgery (NINDS, 2011). Hydrotherapy, a type of physical therapy in water and its effects on muscular dystrophy patients will be focused on in the succeeding study. She also suggests in this section as an alternative to erecting trade barriers, to instead compensate workers of the losing industries, known as the compensation principle (151). Lastly, with the lift of the measures and quotas by 2005, there will be a new surge in Chinese goods to America, as illustrated in figure 9.1, page 167. China s percent increase after release from the quotas will measure some 900%. Finally is Part IV of the book, My T shirt Finally Encounters a Free Market. This section deals with what happens to the clothes after they are discarded, usually through donation to Goodwill or The Salvation Army. In fact, American donations to these kinds of organizations have increased so much that they have begun exporting the recycled clothing, nearly 7 billion pounds (Rivoli 176), to other countries. The recycled industry has actually created jobs in Africa as America s old clothes are ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 51. Catullus Metaphors The fruits of the magna mater are also evident in c.48. Again, Catullus carefully places his agricultural simile in the latter half of the poem to establish an implied spatial contrast between the urbs and saltus. But there is an essential difference here. While before the poet used the pastoral to describe the unquantifiable, the omnipresence of Lesbia and of Rome, here we encounter a numerical limit to the milia [basia] trecenta (3). Not only does this value directly respond to the problem of c.5, the infinity of loveand the rest of the Lesbia basia poems , but it also highlights another way in which Catullus may use this mode; that is, as a tool for fiscal and quantitative civilising/Romanising forces. This notion is stressed through the alliteration aridis aristis / sit (5/6), which works across the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Fordyce calls this a genuine archaism that recalls similar paratactic uses in Greek which are commonly found in hymns see Callimachus Hymn IV:39 40 . While the pueri may have won, the puellae s appreciation for rural aesthetic and value has almost been gospelised. Associating archaic vocabulary with the ancient times means that Catullus may glorify the pastoral not only morally but also in the kind of existence he would like to live. The fact that this lifestyle was associated with Romulus and Remus, suggests that Catullus highlights the widespread misappropriation of this ideal with the insulting direct address cinaede Romule (5/9) in c.29 . Crucially, cinaedus is male sexual term which means that this kind of imperial sex is essentially unreproductive; performed for pleasure, not primeval necessity, in the same way that Mentula uses his land. The opprobia (c.28:15) this brings onto the founders of this city, poisons Roman conservatism and any belief in a rustic reverie to its root. Is this about reactionary ... • 52. Laughter In The BirdsBy Bergson sThe Birds Now, using Bergson s theory of laughter to analyze The Birds, it confirms the previously stated hypothesis, that the play applies as an aspect of Anthropocene laughter. The points made in the paragraphs above are extremely evident all throughout the text of the play. In The Birds, the two main characters, Pisthetaerus and Euelpides are fleeing Athens because of its current problematic status in politics, in search for something better, where they can have a brand new beginning. The two men sought out a new city, built by the influential birds, that was not tainted by man and his all too powerful hand. This is already quite similar to that of the Anthropocene, an age of wanting and needing change in order to survive after being naГЇve to humankind s power of destruction. This is an example of imitation, something that sparks laughter as stated by Bergson. This telling statement from The Birds confirms this: Weak mortals, chained to the earth, creatures of clay as frail as the foliage of the woods, you unfortunate race, whose life is but darkness, as unreal as shadow, the illusion of a dream, hearken to us, who are immortal beings (75). There is laughter within this because it reflects aspects of humankind. In order to even understand the comedyin this play, a degree of intelligence is absolutely necessary. Aristophanes makes little jokes everywhere, for example that fact that those in power are birds and the names of the main characters. This is something an ordinary person ...
