However, with the development of new standards such as EPUB 3 that support multimedia and the improvements in reading devices, the penetration of electronic versions of trade books has advanced quite rapidly. The market for digital textbooks, however, has grown at a more modest rate for a variety of reasons. The electronic textbook marketplace is still working through some very complex technological and business model issues.
This two-part webinar series will explore the nascent world of electronic textbooks and how publishers, students, and librarians are dealing with these new products.
Just as open access has revolutionized the world of journal literature, so too is it increasingly being advocated in the e-textbook world. Out with the old, in with the new: revising ERM workflows in a time of changeNASIG
Electronic Resources and Metadata (ERM) work can be time sensitive and constantly changing. It is difficult to keep track of tasks, projects, and what staff are working on. Communication, leadership, flexibility, and clear workflows are essential to successfully track and manage ERM tasks. However, workflows can easily become outdated, causing inefficiency and roadblocks.
In December 2019, the University of Guelph Library will be migrating to a Library Services Platform as part of OCUL Collaborative Futures project. This migration, combined with staffing changes and outdated workflows, inspired the Electronic Resources & Metadata team to begin revising many of their workflows, focusing on prioritization, clean-up, and streamlining. This session describes their workflow revision process, including local context, change management strategies for this process, and guiding principles for the revision. Emphasis will be placed on the NASIG Core Competencies for Electronic Resources Librarians, including communication, leadership, and flexibility, and their impact on workflows.

What are the strategic benefits of using an external consultant? How can use of a consultant boost your ability to move your organization forward? What happens after the consultant goes?! Join an international team of administrative librarians in learning when to use an external consultant, factors for funding and how to leverage recommendations from work with a consultant to successfully move your organization forward. The presenters will provide examples drawn from their experience working with R2 Consulting LLC and the implementation of recommendations from their report “Workflow Analysis: From Selection-to-Access” presented to the University of Lethbridge Library in April 2009.
Participants will be exposed to the cycle of preparation, participation, and implementation of working alongside a consultant.
Presenters will share their experience with immediate tangible benefits as well as the future benefits that can accrue from the practical and cultural changes that happen along the way.
Attendees will have the opportunity to ask questions, share their experiences and apply lessons learned to their specific workplace challenges.
Sessions outcomes will include:
1. Participants will gain exposure to leadership strategies for driving and managing change.
2. Participants will learn how to make the case for, and gain valuable expertise from, external consultants.
3. Participants will learn to move beyond the recommendations to leverage additional operational and cultural changes that can happen as implementation becomes reality.
