5. These are just some of the many historical and cultural
links between Luxembourg and the United Kingdom
explored by John Marshall, British Ambassador
to Luxembourg, in his new #LuxUKLinks book.
#LuxUKLinks touches on a range of fields where
the two countries’ paths cross, from arts and culture,
history and sport, to the links between the royal families
and diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The late Grand Duke Jean, who volunteered for the
British Army during World War II, and Paule Kremer,
the first Luxembourger to swim across the English
Channel, are among the well-known Luxembourgers
featured in the book.

6. “What I show through #LuxUKLinks is moments in time
when the stories of our two countries have come together,
or where people from one country have left a mark in the other,”
says Ambassador Marshall. “#LuxUKLinks also highlights
the contemporary links. It covers the spectrum from important
moments in European and global history to light-hearted and
frivolous links we have in common,” he adds.

7. #LuxUKLinks is the culmination of 4 years of activity,
starting in 2016 when Ambassador Marshall began
tweeting links between Luxembourg and the UK on
social media. The first 60 tweets were turned into a
travelling exhibition that toured schools, communes
and museums around Luxembourg. A year later, the
Ambassador published his first #LuxUKLinks book,
a collection of 75 tweets. A series of blog posts
and videos were also produced under the
#LuxUKLinks banner.
The new book contains 150 links, twice as many
as the first edition, and brings together all the
different strands of #LuxUKLinks in one, beautifully
designed and produced book. The Ambassador
has described the book as “a celebration
of the links between Luxembourg and
the United Kingdom”.
#LuxUKLinks is published by Maison Moderne,
Luxembourg’s premier, independent business
media outlet.
