Control System
• A control system is a system in which an input is given to the
system and the output of the system is controlled by the help
of some control elements.
• The control system consists of combination of different
electrical, electronics, and mechanical devices or component
to control, manage or regulate the behavior of other devices is
known as control system.
• Examples of control system are Traffic light control,
automobile, airplane flight path control , air conditioner,
refrigerator, automatic iron etc.

Features of a Good Control System
• Accuracy: Accuracy of a system means that how
accurately the system works when input is given to the
system. It means if a system has very less error then the
system will be highly accurate. So, accuracy of control
system should be high or error should be less.
• They give the same response every time if the input to it
is same.
• Accuracy can be improved by the use of feedback
element and error detector.
Features of a Good Control System
• Sensitivity: the ability of the control system to respond to
smallest change in input. The minimum magnitude of input
signal required to produce a specified output signal
• Sensitivity of a control system should be less; it means it
should be made in such a way that it will be unaffected by
external disturbances.
• If any disturbance comes in forward or feedback path then
it should not have much effect in output of control system,
so those systems which have less sensitivity are considered
as good control system.

Features of a Good Control System
• Noise is defined as an undesired input signal. The good control
system should be able to reduce/reject the noise effect for
better performance.
Features of a Good Control System
• Stability:
• For a particular change in the input signal of the system, the
output makes the system's response at a reasonable value. We
can also say the value that can be controlled.
• if the input is zero then the output must be zero then such a
control system is said to be a stable system
• Stability of a system means, if any disturbance comes in the
system then how fast the system comes in its original state. If
it recovers its original state, then the system is called highly
stable.
• Good control system should have high stability for all the
variations.
Features of a Good Control System
It is the response of the first order system
with a unit step input. Its value lies
between 0 and 1.
Features of a Good Control System
• Bandwidth:
• Bandwidth is a range of frequencies over which a
control system can work/operate.
• How much range of frequency control system
can transmit.
• A good control system should have high band width.
• To obtain a good frequency response, bandwidth of a
system should be large.
Features of a Good Control System
• Speed of Response:
The time taken by the control system to achieve its steady state
stable output.
• Theoretically the speed of response should be infinity, that is, the
system should have an instantaneous response. This requirement is
prime concern with follow-up systems.
• Speed of a control system should be high.
• We can think that a slow system is of no use, like if an electric
iron takes too much time to heat up its bottom then it will be of no
use.
• The transient period for such a system is very small.

• Oscillations:
• A good control system should have less
oscillations or at least should be constant.
• Actually, oscillations make the performance of
a system poor.
• A good control system Should be able to damp
out oscillations.
Features of a Good Control System
• Reliability:
• Ability of the system to work without failure.
• A good control system should have high reliable.
• Repeatability:
• Ability of the system to reproduce same output when
same input is applied.
• A good control system should have high repeatability.
