Our film complies with these conventions as it portrays a realistic antagonist, Josh, to be in
a real life situation as he loses his father and therefore starts to rebel, causing trouble in
school and eventually being questioned by the police
This screenshot shows JOSH
rebelling in school and getting
involved with a gang and knife
crime.

To the right, JOSH being
questioned by the police as
an consequence of his
behavior.
Another reason our film complies with the conventions of a drama film is because it
shows a realistic struggle as Josh is coming to terms with his fathers death and acts out
in a way that can been seen as realistic which allows the audience to connect
emotionally as they would have sympathy for Josh.

Here we see Josh getting himself into trouble as he has become involved with
the wrong type of crowd. This is a way of acting out and his grief over his
Father’s death.
Towards the end of the film we start to see Josh finding friendship in a girl who, in a way,
helps him out of his troubled behaviour.

Therefore, showing a resolution for Josh and the plot but also character development as we
see Josh change from a young, badly behaved teenager to a teenager who is aware of his
behaviour and starts to change his actions after he realises the trouble that he caused and
the consequences of his actions, to become a better person for his father.
We decided to portray the main protagonist to be a middle class, teenage boy as he
would be more relatable to the audience and his experiences would be more
realistic and expected of a boy of his age.
Well groomed

Smart buttoned up
shirt
17 years old

Smart trousers and
shoes

We also found that if we made the protagonist a teenage boy we would be able to
find a suitable actor of the same age and the film would seem realistic.
The protagonist is presented to be vulnerable and easily intimidated, as shown when he is
in situations with the antagonists.

The antagonists are a gang of teenage boys that include Josh in their actions, placing him
into trouble he doesn’t normally involve himself in. This could be seen as a representation
of how society views working class, teenage boys, as they’re only out to cause trouble.

We decided on this for the antagonist as it would be a likely group that would realistically
seem to influence a vulnerable boy.
