• How do you handle this? My first step is to analyze the situation just
because I don’t like the subject doesn’t mean I don’t needed, I need to
realize how important it is for me to get a good grade in the class.
always remembering the long-term goal helps motivate you, when
you want something you do anything to get there and sometimes that
means making sacrifices, this are just some small challenges you will
face in college or in your life never give up.
• How should you handle it?After you analyze the situation now you
focus on the how, look for options to how you can make the class
seem more interesting, you already realize that you don’t like the
class so joining a study group might help change your mind sometimes
changing your environment to a more comfortable one helps. I learn
more by listening and asking questions a study group allows you to
put your input about the subject and is also easy for me to remember
when I speak out loud, also bring a tape recorder to class obviously
since you don’t enjoy the class you might not be paying attention
recording the professor give the lesson allows you to recall the
information you might miss for lack of motivation don’t rely on this
try to pay attention and take notes you don’t want to become
attached to the recorder use it as a secondary source.
• What memorization techniques do you resist trying? While reading
chapter 7 I saw the different techniques for memorizing and I came
across one that said to speak out loud to yourself as your walking or
just going about your day by day; I thought that was a little funny and

loud but not to myself in public in my home yes or in a group study.
• Is it because they seem too unrelated to the information, or too
goofy? It seems a little silly to walk around talking to yourself like a
crazy person would that is why I probably wouldn’t try it; there are
other techniques I could try that won’t embarrass me.
• What would you be willing to try?Honestly I would try just about
anything to improve in my studies techniques as long as I don’t
embarrass myself. Maybe I just need to put all my insecurities aside in
chapter 7 I read that you should try just about everything in order to
know what best fits you and I am willing to let go and try new
methods.
• What does Norton’s story mean for you?This success book so far has
very interesting stories and I really enjoy reading them; Norton’s story
was very inspiring although he went to college first and didn’t succeed
he dropped out and took responsibility got a job and learned how real
life works and it gave him the motivation he lack when he first
attended college, going back to college old habits still gave him a
challenge but he got the resources he needed to be a successful
student never giving up and staying focus on the long-term goal and
he did it, yes he made sacrifices and he struggle but he achieved his
goal, this story helps me put some ideas into perspective and they will
allow me to accomplish my goals.
• What effects can take you beyond your world?Searching for
meaning in your coursework or your working life can mean more than
just fulfillment for you. The more interested, committed, and fulfilled
you are the more benefits radiate from you and affects

• What can you learn from Norton’s case about memory and study
strategies?I learned how much information the brain can retain and
what steps to take in order for the brain to retain information and
store it in the long-term memory, also how your five senses are part
of the proses to memorizing information. Having purpose, intention
and emotional connection helps you memorize.
• What can you learn from Norton about analytical, creative, and
practical thinking?Norton use the thinking skills to help him retain
information, it encourage you to associate new information with what
you already know , I learned that these skills are more than just for
studying they can also be applied on the outside world and
professional too, and I will continue to use them in all types of
situations.
