Lesson 3: Linking Verbs and Predicates
 The complement that a linking verb connects its subject to is called a
 subject complement. The subject complement IDENTIFIES or
 DESCRIBES the subject.

          Barnstormers were stunt pilots in the 1920s and 1930s.

          Their job looked dangerous.



PREDICATE NOUN: Noun that                 PREDICATE ADJECTIVE:

Lesson 4: Principal Parts of Verbs

Every verb has four basic forms called its principal parts:
the present, the present participle, the past, the past participle.

    We live in a mobile society.

    People are traveling more all the time.

    Automobiles lent travelers more freedom

    Drivers have enjoyed this freedom for years.

For REGULAR VERBS:

Present      Present Participle     Past         Past Participle
walk         (is/are) walk+ing      walk+ed      (has/have/had walked)

Henry Ford Museum in Dearborn, Michigan, (1) has showcased

transportation since its early stages. For years, its exhibit

"Automobile in American Life" (2) has appealed to visitors. The

exhibit (3) started with more than 100 historic cars. The 15-

millionth Model T (4) stands there. The exhibit (5) features a

1946 diner. Jukeboxes in the diner (6) are playing old songs. The

exhibit also (7) shows a 1960s motel room. The details of a

camper's cabin (8) make it special. Plastic ants (9) are crawling

across the bureau. An open suitcase (10) is sitting on a rumpled

bed.
