A. Background of the Problems
Language is one of the most important thing for human life.
Language is bridge communication. Through language, people can convey
messages and their expression to the other. Therefore we have to be master
the language. English is one of international language in this world. Even
some countries use English as a first language or main language and few
other countries use English as a second language.
In studying English, students have to know with some aspects, such
as writing, reading, speaking and listening. And these four language skills are
developed from some language components structure, vocabulary, spelling
and pronunciations. In this research writer attention focused on the
vocabulary as one of components of English language.
CHAPTER 1
INTRODUCTION
Vocabulary skill is very important for student to communicate. Student
have to be able to memorize vocabulary to make easy of communicate.
If student want to be successful person they have to know vocabulary as much
as they can. Since the first learn English , teachers introduce the vocabulary.
Based on the explanation above, someone cannot express or tell their
ideas if they didn’t have enough vocabulary or vocabulary mastery, because
when someone didn’t have enough vocabulary it will be difficult to
communicate. Therefore English must have responsibility to use the good
materials or techniques in teaching English .
In Indonesian, crossword puzzle is provided with a number of
questions or words or phrases as keys to fill in a series of empty box designed
in such a way.
Rinaldi Munir (2015) states: “Crossword puzzle is a game with a
rectangular template consisting of a black and white box, and it
has two paths : Horizontal9 set of rectangles and multiple
columns) and descending (a collection of single column and
multiple rows).”
The writer feel interested in the problem of vocabulary skills and
make research to solve the problem through Crossword puzzle
with tittle “Develop students vocabulary through Crossword
Puzzle Games” ( An experimental . . ).
B. Identification of the problems
Based on the background above, the writer identifies some as
problem follows:
A. What make the students skills in vocabulary still low?
B. What make the students interested and motivated in learning
vocabulary?
C. What method can be used by teachers and teaching vocabulary?
D. Is the crossword puzzle game can develop students vocabulary
mastery?
E. What is the way teach vocabulary using crossword puzzle game?
C. Limitation of the Problems
To focus her study, the writer limit the problem

D. Research Question
In this paper the writer state the research of
problem in the form of the following question.
A. Is teaching vocabulary trough crossword puzzle game
able to develop the student vocabulary skill?
B. Is teaching vocabulary through crossword puzzle
game effective?
E. The aim of the research
The writer intend to reach the following Aim that
is to know the development of the crossword puzzle
game on the students reach in vocabulary.
F. The advantages of the research
It is hoped that the writer result of the research has the advantages
for :
A. For the students
The students are more motivated and interested because the teaching learning
process more memorable and confortable, so students don’t feel bored when
they study in the classroom.
B. For the teacher
The teacher will know that crossword puzzle game can be use in teaching
English to make students interested when they study In the classroom.
C. For the reader
The researches hope that reader can use and apply this game as an attractive
method in teaching English to develop students vocabulary skill.
