Questions:
When do we begin a question with did?
When do we begin a question with do?
When do we begin a question with does?
To change a statement into a question
beginning with did, do and does, remember
the following:
1. If the verb in the present tense is an action
verb, begin your question with do or does
followed by the subject and the simple form
of the verb. Use do for a plural subject and
does for a singular subject.
Statement:
The government works for the betterment of
the country.
Examples:
Question:
Does the government work for the betterment
of the country?
Statement:
They live here.
Question:
Do they live here?
2. If the verb in the past tense us an action
verb, begin your question with did followed by
the subject and the simple form of the verb.
Use did for both singular and plural subjects.
Statement:
The hermit listened to the king.
Question:
Did the hermit listen to the king?
3. If the verb is a form of to be, reverse the
position of the subject and predicate. The verb
form of to be signals the question.
