Chandragupta I was the founder of the Gupta Empire who ruled from 320-335 BCE. He married Kumaradevi, a Lichchhavi princess, which expanded his kingdom of Magadha. Chandragupta I issued gold coins with his and his queen's images and erected the famous Mehrauli Iron Pillar, taking the title of Maharajadhiraja.
