The chain of command, sometimes called the scaler chain, is the formal line of authority, communication, and responsibility within an organization.
The chain of command is usually depicted on an organizational chart, which identifies the superior and subordinate relationships in the organizational
structure. According to classical organization theory the organizational chart allows one to visualize the lines of authority and communication within
an organizational structure and ensures clear assignment of duties and responsibilities. By utilizing the chain of command, and its visible authority

CURRENT STATUS
In many organizations, the chain of command principle is still very much alive. The manager's status is that of the deliverer of orders, and the
employee enacts them under the monitoring of the manager. Both parties share responsibility for achievements. But, as Longnecker suggests in his
book Principles of Management and Organizational Behavior, communication provides the underpinnings of this relationship. The discussions and

As a new private in basic some soldiers are appointed into student leadership positions to help them understand how hard it is to run a squad or
platoon sized element and to show them how much harder it is without the proper use of the chain of command. The soldiers quickly learn that
one person can be in charge of a platoon but it is very difficult to handle and control every single individual soldier and their issues. The student
leaders learn that the military cannot efficiently function without the chain of command and the use of delegation. The importance of the chain of
command is that it provides stability inside the work place for when incidents come about that need to be dealt with. It sets up the structure for
which you report all good and bad things; accidents, mistakes, tardiness, and so on. All incidents are intended to be dealt with on the lowest level

Furthermore, it helps people who normally are not or would not be able to take control of situations and control how things are ran, take charge and

an example of an unhealthy communication chain witch can also result in death and injury. To cut down on weak or unhealthy communication from
leaders and subordinates there must be strict penalties for these types of failures. This will discourage laziness and incompetence among subordinates
and leaders alike. These penalties are also a form of communication. This type of communication uses cause and effect to get a point across. Not only
will this stop an individual / individuals from making this same mistake twice, other Soldiers will learn from this as well seeing their peers getting

time it is equally important to communicate properly in a garrison environment as well. When is a garrison environment the leading cause of death is
automobile accidents. The US Army communicates safety to stay mission capable at all times. We as Soldiers go through many classes about safety in

Keith, I agree with you there needs to be order or there is chaos so with organizational structure gives all parties the information or ways to get
information to accomplish the goal. When I was in the U. S. Navy there was structure with a chain of command and if you did not follow it you

There are a lot of reasons for the rank structure and the chain of command. Every reason that I am going to explain in this essay is very important. I
am going to separate them into two paragraphs. The first paragraph will be about the importance of the rank structure and why the rank structure is in

But there is one simple way to fix that problem that a lot of us lower enlisted seem to have. If the person you are about to talk to is not your chief
or one of the other chiefs in your platoon. Do not talk to them unless they speak to you first. And all you really need to say to them is check, roger,
hooah. In the past year and three months, I have had a lot of trouble realizing this. I tend to do the wrong thing and go talk to who I need to talk to
without going about it the right way. If you want to talk to your commander, you need to talk to you chief, then your platoon sergeant, then your
first sergeant, then you can talk to your commander. This may seem like a lot of work. But in all actuality if the problem that you have is able to
be fixed beforehand, then it was all worth the work. Yes there are going to be situations when you know that it can only be fixed by talking to the
highest person in the chain of command, but the chain of command needs to know what is going on so that they can try to help you and explain the
situation to the next person up. Before I realized that the chain of command is here for the soldier, I always thought that it was just so that your chief
and your platoon sergeant do not look bad to the person above them. In some cases this may be slightly true, but it is not just about that. It is about
