SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION
GONORRHEA
Gonorrhea, colloquially known as the ‘clap’, is
a sexually transmitted infection caused by the
bacterium Neisseria gonorrhoeae. Gonorrhea
is a bacterial infection, and if semen or vaginal
fluid that contains this bacteria enters the eye,
the person may develop conjunctivitis,
commonly called “pink eye.” You get it from
having sex with someone who is infected with
it.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION
GONORRHEA
Waysto prevent gonorrhea include:
avoiding sexual activity if there is the possibility of
infection
using a barrier method of protection, such as
condoms, during vaginal or anal intercourse
using condoms or dental dams during oral
intercourse
only having sexual activity with a mutually
monogamous partner who does not have the
infection.

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION
SYPHILIS
Syphilisis an infection caused by bacteria
Treponema pallidum. Most often, it spreads
through sexual contact. The disease starts as
a sore that's often painless and typically
appears on the genitals, rectum or a white
patch on the tongue, lips or the mouth. Without
treatment, syphilis can spread to the brain and
nervous system (neurosyphilis), the eye
(ocular syphilis), or the ear (otosyphilis).

SEXUALLY TRANSMITTED INFECTION
SYPHILIS
Syphilisis simple to cure when it's found and
treated in its early stages. The preferred
treatment at all stages is penicillin. This
antibiotic medicine can kill the bacteria that
causes syphilis. During treatment, make sure
to avoid sexual contact until all sores on the
body are healed and the doctor tells that it’s
safe to resume sex. If a person is sexually
active, their partner should be treated as well.

GENITALHERPES
Genital herpes is a herpes infection that causes sores
or blisters on your genitals because of herpes simplex
virus. Most people infected with genital herpes have
no symptoms, but some people can experience:
• stinging, itching or tingling in the genital area
• small bumps or blisters around the genitals or mouth
• painful red sores that develop when blisters burst or
bleed
• sores that look like a rash or cracked skin on the
genitals

GENITALHERPES
Although there isn’t a cure for herpes, there
are ways to prevent its spread and treat
outbreaks. Treatment with prescription
antiviral pills may be used for the following:
•Help sores heal during a first outbreak.
•Lower the frequency of recurrent outbreaks.

TRICHOMONIASIS
Trichomoniasisis an infectious disease caused
by the parasite Trichomonas vaginalis. People
get trich from having unprotected sexual
contact with someone who has the infection.
It's spread when semen (cum), pre-cum, and
vaginal fluids get on or inside your penis,
vulva, or vagina. In women, trichomoniasis can
cause a foul-smelling vaginal discharge,
genital itching and painful urination. Men who
have trichomoniasis typically have no
symptoms.

TRICHOMONIASIS
Trichomoniasisis usually treated quickly and
easily with antibiotics. Most people are
prescribed an antibiotic called
metronidazole, which is very effective if
taken correctly. You'll usually have to take
metronidazole twice a day, for 5 to 7 days.
Sometimes this antibiotic can be prescribed
in a single, larger dose.

HUMANIMMUNODEFICIENCY
VIRUS
HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) is
the virus that causes AIDS (acquired
immunodeficiency syndrome). Human
immunodeficiency virus (HIV) attacks the
immune system and weakens the body’s
ability to fight other infections. About 70-
90% of people living with HIV have no
symptoms and carry the infection without
knowing.

VIRUS
The treatment for HIV is called
antiretroviral therapy (ART). ART involves
taking a combination of HIV medicines
(called an HIV treatment regimen) on a
regular schedule, usually every day (pills)
or once a month/every two months
(injections). ART cannot cure HIV, but
these HIV medicines help people with HIV
live long, healthy lives.
