This document describes the development of a web-based application for annotating high resolution cervical cancer images. The application allows users to provide both textual and graphical annotations on cervical images. Graphical annotations are made by encircling regions of interest using an ellipse annotation tool. The annotations are stored in a MySQL database and can be used to conduct more precise image-based searches of the cervical image databases. The application was designed to enhance indexing, storage, and retrieval of cervical images for research and educational purposes.

Crowdsourcing Digitization: Harnessing Workflows to Increase Output
Are the highly selective models of digital content creation satisfying user demands for
increasing access to our vast collection holdings? In this era of decreasing library
budgets and increasing responsibilities, is such a level of staffing possible at any but the
well-funded libraries? As a recent article in the New York Times estimated, it would take
1,800 years for the National Archives to digitize its text holdings at the current rate of
digitization1. Since November 2005, the University of Maryland libraries has engaged in
another model for digitization: a workflow model that harnesses the digitization already
being done by archivists and other staff for requests by patrons. By “crowdsourcing”
selection decisions in this way the libraries have built a collection of over 5,000 objects
from the holdings of the University Archives and Historical Manuscripts. This model is
based on two main principles:
· Selection: As one part of a programmatic approach to digitization, selections are
based on user request and added to the publicly accessible digital repository
· Image capture: Digitization itself proceeds on the premise that creating useful
surrogates is more important than digital reformatting. The path to a successful
workflow is fraught with perils, though.
The presenters will discuss the issues that have proven most effective and most difficult
in the large-scale digitization workflow in place at UM. They will highlight the technical
requirements chosen for images, metadata, and quality control and speak about how
they were, or in some cases were not, able to achieve them. In bringing to light these
issues we hope to continue an ongoing conversation (most recently articulated at
OCLC\'s \"Digitization Matters\" forum) about the purpose of digital collections and
standards of digital surrogate creation, especially in the age of mass digitization projects.
We hope to explore need to harness all of the library’s expertise and resources where
they can best be deployed.
A novel Image Retrieval System using an effective region based shape represen...
With recent improvements in methods for the acquisition and rendering of shapes, the need for retrieval of shapes from large repositories of shapes has gained prominence. A variety of methods have been proposed that enable the efficient querying of shape repositories for a desired shape or image. Many of these methods use a sample shape as a query and attempt to retrieve shapes from the database that have a similar shape. This paper introduces a novel and efficient shape matching approach for the automatic identification of real world objects. The identification process is applied on isolated objects and requires the segmentation of the image into separate objects, followed by the extraction of representative shape signatures and the similarity estimation of pairs of objects considering the information extracted from the segmentation process and shape signature. We compute a 1D shape signature function from a region shape and use it for region shape representation and retrieval through similarity estimation. The proposed region shape feature is much more efficient to compute than other region shape techniques invariant to image transformation.

In this paper a co-relative information, bounding grouping approach is suggested for action model prediction in CBMR application. The co-relative recurrent feature mapping results in faster retrieval process as compared to the conventional retrieval system.

Content based retrieval has an advantage of higher prediction accuracy as compared to tagging based approach. However, the complexity in its representation and classification approach, results in lower processing accuracy and computation overhead. The correlative nature of the feature data are un-explored in the conventional modeling, where all the data features are taken as a set of feature values to give a decision. The recurrent feature class attribute is observed for the feature regrouping in action model prediction. In this paper a co-relative information, bounding grouping approach is suggested for action model prediction in CBMR application. The co-relative recurrent feature mapping results in faster retrieval process as compared to the conventional retrieval system.

A Survey on Content Based Image Retrieval System
The increasing increase of picture databases in practically every industry, including medical science, multimedia, geographic information systems, photography, journalism, and so on, necessitates the development of an effective and efficient approach for image processing. The approach of content based image retrieval is used to recover images based on their content, such as texture, colour, shape, and spatial layout. However, because to the semantic mismatch between the users high level notions and the images low level properties, retrieving the image is extremely challenging. Many concepts were presented in effort to close this gap. Furthermore, images can be stored and extracted depending on a variety of properties, one of which being texture. Content based Image Retrieval has become a popular study area as a result of the growth of video and image data in digital form. Digital data, such as criminal photographs, fingerprints, and scene photographs, has been widely used in forensic sciences. As a result, arranging such enormous amounts of visual data, such as how to quickly find an interesting image, becomes a major difficulty. There is a pressing need to develop an effective method for locating photographs. An image must be represented with particular features in order to be found. Three significant visual qualities of an image are colour, texture, and shape. The search for images utilising colour, texture, and shape attributes has gotten a lot of press.
