JUNE ISSUE 2015 THE 702 SUN INTERNATIONAL CEO SLEEPOUT RISE TO THE CHALLENGE
THE 702 SUN INTERNATIONAL CEO SLEEPOUT: 18 JUNE 2015
By Ka e Engelbrecht
A CHARITY doesn’t get more
glamorous than being founded by
a top model, endorsed by celebrity
chefs and supported by the who’s
who of Hollywood.
The founder, South African
and former Kingsmeadian Topaz
Page-Green, is feeding South African
school children through her charity,
The Lunchbox Fund. And the
way she is raising the money
couldn’t be more on trend than
taking photos of your lunch!
Gone are the days when it was
not cool to snap a pic of your
meal and post it on social media
– now, your pic helps to feed a
child.
Feedie is a mobile app that enables
you to take a photo of your meal at
a par cipa ng Feedie restaurant.
You then write a quick review of
the restaurant and/or meal,
and that restaurant will
donate money to The
Lunchbox Fund.
Feedie and The
Lunchbox Fund are
really flying overseas,
so it’s exci ng to
see the number of
restaurants that are
signing up in South
Africa. If your favourite restaurant
hasn’t joined the Feedie frenzy, then
you should definitely nominate them
on the Feedie website.
Considering you don’t actually
have to do anything other than enjoy
a delicious meal and snap a quick pic,
this is a great way to support a really
worthy cause that is
providing
school lunches to over a million
children across South Africa each
year.
For more info about The Lunchbox
Fund and the Feedie app visit their
websites at www.wethefeedies.com
and wwwthelunchboxfund.org

BUSINESS Connexion’s CEO Isaac
Mophatlane, who suffered a
devasta ng personal tragedy last
year, shares his thoughts with Jacqui
Thompson on philanthropy and
contribu ng meaningfully to society.
Q: You have a very personal
mo va on to take part in The 702
Sun Interna onal CEO SleepOut™,
which corresponds with your desire
to double your par cipa on fee?
A: My late brother Ben and I have
always been passionate about giving
back to this country. I think we are
a good story of two young South
Africans who were passionate about
achieving our dreams. And because
every day I work hard to ensure I
achieve my dreams - and having the
opportunity to head up a business
such as BCX gives me the perfect
pla orm to give back to our country
and highlight the plight of those
less fortunate - I get to do what I’m
privileged to do. That is one way I
can help change a life. And I know
my brother would have been excited
to do this and so I am doing this in
his memory too. Ben was passionate
about people, changing lives and
doing what he could to make a
contribu on.
Q: What does philanthropy mean to
you?
A: Philanthropy is part of my
upbringing. In many of our
communi es we o en help one
another wherever we can. We see
each day how the world needs
people to shape it, and through
philanthropy we can do so much
more, by giving back our me,
resources or anything we are
able to get involved with. To me,
philanthropy is about making one’s
contribu on to help or empower
each other.
Q: What do you expect to get from
The CEO SleepOut™?
A: I want to simply add value to
the mission of The SleepOut™.
I’m humbled to be able to make
the slightest contribu on to such
a cause. I’m excited to be part of
a movement that aims to bring
a en on to vulnerable children of
our country, and help bring them
hope and give them purpose in life
through the dona ons.
Q: What is your biggest concern
about the evening?
A: I think I’m quite comfortable with
the evening and the idea behind it.
While it’s a challenge, it’s also an
opportunity to champion a cause far
bigger than we imagine.
Q: What are you looking forward to
most?
A: I look forward to being taken
out of my comfort zone, but most
importantly I look forward to making
a difference. I think the experience
will be a good reminder of the
challenges our country is facing at
the moment, and how we can all
get involved.

Ben and all those in need
