WELTEVREDEN PARK – Ward
126 councillor Mike Tonkin said
residents who travel on Without
Road live in fear as the bridge
on this road could collapse with
any heavy rain that may happen
anytime from now.
“Extensive damage will occur
with the next downpour which
could well result in further damage
to our existing infrastructure in the
locality,” explained Tonkin.
He said the major damage will
be caused because of the blocked
culverts on the Klein Jukskei River
which, he says, will inevitably
lead to damage of the bridges
over this river and will result in
millions of rands in damages to the
infrastructure.
“I have reported these problems
to the Johannesburg Roads Agency
(JRA) and yet, so far, without
response,” stated Tonkin.
Another problem pointed
out by the councillor is that
there in a sink hole between
JG Strydom and Cockspur
roads that awaits repairs from
JRA. Tonkin said a call was logged
more than three weeks ago. “This
is an urgent matter because of
the potential damage that can
be inflicted on vehicles using
this busy road and it is steadily
deteriorating.”
JRA has not yet responded to
questions regarding the bridge.

HONEYDEW – After serving
the Gauteng community for
more than 24 years, Honeydew
Cluster Commander Major
General Oswald Reddy said
he felt he needed a change of
environment.
Maj Gen Reddy, who prides
himself on more than 34 years
of service in the South African
Police Service, said he will start
his new job in George, Western
Cape on 1 April.
“When I started my career in
the police service, I worked in
KwaZulu-Natal for two years
and I was in the Western Cape
for seven years.
“I have been here in Gauteng
for 24 years and believe it is now
time to move on,” he explained
and added that his move has
nothing to do with the recent
transfers that were implemented
in the police service.
“There was an open position
in George, I applied and was
fortunate to be successful. So
this is just a transfer,” concluded
Maj Gen Reddy.
The sink hole between JG
Strydom and Cockspur roads
is still unrepaired – more
than three weeks after it was
reported.
