Central Nottingham College will develop a career pathway program to introduce NEET young adults ages 18-24 to vocational STEM careers. The program will provide employability skills training, vocational tasters, and frequent guidance to help participants gain education, employment, or further training. It will also create a national STEM network to share its flexible and adaptable model with other colleges.

1. Central Nottingham College – STEM Career Pathways
Central Nottingham College will develop a career pathway. The Career-ship will
introduce NEET 18-24 year olds into vocational employment requiring STEM
(Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). The project will create a
national network for Colleges wishing to develop a STEM based curriculum, as well
as, undertake a qualifications gap analysis in this area.
In more detail, Central Nottingham College, with other partners, will produce a
programme framework. The aim is to provide a seamless pathway from initial advice
and guidance, into generic employability skills training that is designed to respond to
employer’s request of skills and knowledge of those they would like to recruit. There
would be vocational tasters for students to have real experience of a job and to be in
the position to make an informed decision. There will be frequent communication with
participants to either re-route them or help them to gain either education, employment
as an apprentice or further training.
The importance of low carbon economy has been identified within the Nottingham
area. It is believed that the majority of those STEM vocationally trained will play apart
in their employed lives of delivering a low carbon economy.
Central Nottingham College will create a national STEM network to ensure that the
outputs from this project are not Central Nottingham College centric and that it is a
flexible and adaptable model that can be used by others in the Sector.
