Cats need annual veterinary checkups even if they appear healthy, as many feline illnesses have subtle symptoms. Black cats are not actually bad luck - that superstition stems from medieval folklore associating them with witches.

Pets are at risk from antifreeze which tastes sweet but is deadly if ingested. Owners should monitor pets outside and seek veterinary care if any antifreeze is consumed. This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

He loved everyone, and I had
people come over to my
apartment who said they “didn't
like any cats, but I like YOUR
cat!”
He is so missed and I will never
forget all he gave me, such love
and sweetness.
3. Anabelle
“If, any sunny forenoon, she had
spread a little pair of wings and
flown away before my eyes, I
don't think I should have
regarded it as much more than I
had had reason to expect.”
-Charles Dickens, David
Copperfield
4. Romeo
Meet our beloved Romeo.
He was a charmer who lived only
to love & kiss every New Yorker
he saw.
He stole our hearts from the
moment we met.
Rest Peacefully Handsome Boy.
❤️
5. Spunky
“Many people will walk in and out of
your life but only true friends will
leave footprints in your heart.”
-Eleanor Roosevelt
6. Bella
Bella was the love of my life. She was the
most beautiful, affectionate, protective and
loyal dog I ever had.
She loved to eat the snow and throw it up
in the air. She enjoyed her rope toy with a
tennis ball, but it never lasted for long.
I really miss her a lot and I hope one day
we will be reunited in heaven.
2004 – 12/5/2017
7. Toby
Toby was our first dog. He was a white
and brown Poodle Chihuahua mix.
When Toby was a puppy he would tear
up all the toilet paper in the
bathroom.
Once our son left a bag of McDonalds
on top of his cage and when he
returned Toby ate all the chicken
nuggets.
Toby loved chicken. Toby also enjoyed
playing with his favorite tweedy bird
squeaky toy.
Toby was a special part of our family
for 17 years and we really miss him a
1996 – 3/6/2013
8. Rocky
Rocky was a beautiful black and white
Pitbull.
Once we left him alone for a few hours
and he made a big hole in the couch. He
didn't like to be left alone.
He loved to play with a big rope toy. He
learned how to say OUT when he had to
go outside.
He was a special part of our lives for 10
years.
We all miss him very much.
6/3/2007
9. Cathy
Cathy was a black and white Pitbull who
was thrown over our fence after she gave
birth to her puppies.
We gave her lots of love and she became a
very sweet and loving dog. She loved our
small dog, Spotty- she acted like she was
his mother and would protect him from all
the other dogs.
Once Spotty got too close to my Cane
Corso Bella and Cathy ran so fast to
protect him. Spotty would sleep next to
Cathy all the time and she would watch
over him.
We all really miss Cathy she was a
wonderful dog, she was part of our family
for 10 years.
2001 – 5/13/2011

Till we meet again little darling, your
sweet memory will always warm my
broken heart.
12. Chancellor Lancelot Precious ("Chance")
I miss you, Chance.
You will always be the reason
“the stars that fill the skies are
in my eyes.”

A love song has yet to be written
that can describe how much I love
you and the pain of losing you.
Beauregard, a part of my heart
went with you to Heaven.
14. Nemo
Nemo you were a great dog
and I love you and I will
never forget you.

To my sweet angel in heaven you
will forever be in my memories and
heart.

and the perfect little girl.
Mommy loves you.
16. Duchess
Duchess was a friend to all people.
She loved and protected her brother
Marley, she loved food, and she loved
a comfy bed.
A champion swimmer, and a fearless
explorer, we will love her and miss her
for the rest of our lives.
2003 – 3/10/2018
17. Marlington Beckwith III (Marley)
I've never met a dog with as much unique personality
as Marley, my beloved miniature poodle who held my
soul for the past decade.
His work with The Good Dog Foundation brought
him into hospitals, nursing homes, and colleges.
He was never happier than when he was with his
people, curled up on the couch or in our people bed,
relaxing with us.
I will never have the bond with another dog that I had
with my little man.
Marley was a distinguished gentleman, a giant among
his kind, and we miss him and his sweet sister,
Duchess, every single day.
2004 – 7/30/2018 at 6:05pm
18. Clouseau
Clouseau, aka “Clue”, was our sidekick, our
four legged companion and our spiritual
guide.
We are grateful for the years we spent with
him and would do it all over again in a
heartbeat.
When Clouseau was here we finally “had a
Clue” and it is difficult to describe exactly
how much we miss him and how much we
loved him.
The feelings of loss, which we are now
experiencing, are endless but he will remain
forever in our hearts. We are now “Clue
less”
19. Max
One of many moments of joy
he felt and gave during his 17
years.

22. Holly Berrie
Thank you eternally, my sweetheart, for the gift of your
loving heart.
You taught me so much about love and have left your
indelible paw print upon my heart.
In our short time together, no matter how life’s
tribulations tossed and turned my world, coming home
to your special love made it clear I was truly home.
Since our parting, not a day passes that I don’t kiss your
drinking cup and kiss your beautiful photo.
I’ve created my own memorial to you with your beautiful
name inscribed on my wrist.
23. Lucy
In 2014, Lucy was treated at AMCNY for an
aggressive mast cell tumor. Despite losing
part of her front left paw, Lucy lived a joyous
and full life for 4 more years.
We are so grateful to Dr. Maria Camps and
the staff at AMCNY for treating Lucy and
giving us this additional time with her.
We were devastated to lose Lucy earlier this
year but we will love and remember her
always.
-Chase, Cole, Mimi, and Matt Lozow
24. Max
Of all the dogs we’ve had in life, all were
special in some way.
Max, you were special in a way that words
could not describe. You touched our hearts
forever and left your “Paw Prints” on our
hearts.
Your illness came so suddenly, it hurt to say
goodbye. We guess God called you to The
Rainbow Bridge because He needed
another furry Angel by His side.
25. Lennon
My beautiful bulldog Lennon Amon Ibarra
passed away on 8/20/2017. Lennon was and
will continue to be the love of my life.
Lennon was the sweetest, kindest, gentlest
being I have ever met. He was funny, lively,
the most beautiful bulldog I've ever seen, and
completely wonderful. He taught me how to
be a better human being, showed me
unconditional love, and taught me how to
care for another.
Lennon, you were the best dog, friend, baby,
love that I could have ever imagined and I will
love and miss you forever.
5/6/2006– 8/20/2017
26. Dudley & Marvin
Marvin was treated for pulmonary
hypertension, and spent over a
week in the hospital. Sadly he
passed away 2 months later in
September 2015. I lost Dudley to
liver cancer 6 months later.
Marvin and Dudley are incredibly
missed by me. They were the lights
of my life.
28. Sam
Sam was a wonderful companion for 13
years.
He helped me through the loss of my
husband and celebrated with me when we
had two grandchildren.
I lost him in February, but think of him
every day. He is never really gone.
29. Zoey
Zoey, you were my proudest
moment, my joy, my best friend,
my savior, my life!
I will always love you forever!
Until we meet again.
30. Baybee
Born of a feral mother who
seemed to neglect her, she
became the youngest of my
feline household and was the last
of 5!
She was very laid back, smart as
a whip, affectionate and playful! I
miss her terribly.
4/1/2002 – 7/15/2018
31. Fu
You were as beautiful as the sun
and as wonderful as any cat could
ever be.
Thank you for the happiness you
brought to our lives and the
memories we made.
Love you forever,
Your family
32. Rusty, Bliss & Kitty Rusty, my little liver boy, my rapscallion and
Kitty's nemesis.
Bliss, the self-confident butterfly tart who
gazed at me with utter adoration.
Kitty, their side kick, my made to order kitty
and a feral never-lap-sitter who let me rub
her all over.
Bliss passed in July, 2014, Kitty one day less
than a year later in July, 2015, and Rusty
seven months later in February 2016.
I cannot express how deeply I miss them
and how much I miss us, but they are
always here.
34. Miley
Miley was a very sweet loving little girl with a great big
personality.
We rescued Miley from a shelter, we thought we saved
her but she actually saved us by changing our lives
forever. She brought us closer together as a family.
Miley loved people, giving kisses, going on walks, sitting
on the park bench and watch people walk by.
We miss you baby girl, we'll never forget you.
-The Pathmasiri Family
35. Yogi Bear
Yogi was a Morkie who treated with Dr.
Trafny's team at AMC for over three years.
He was the smallest dog with the biggest
heart. He brought joy to everyone he
met. You couldn't help but smile when you
were in Yogi's presence.
Yogi was recently enshrined on AMC’s Wall
of Honor.
37. Mia
Mia was my true soulmate, and she
single-handedly got me through the
death of my parents, my brother, my
best friend, and my dear dog Sophie.
She was the smartest, most beautiful,
most loving and empathic soul
imaginable.
38. Sophie
Everyone who met Sophie was
smitten with her, and essentially
everyone would comment "She isn't
a dog! She is an old soul trapped in
a dog's body.“
Sophie was wise, loving,
marvelously stubborn, gentle, funny,
and a true "trooper" in terms of
soldiering on despite illness and
loss.
39. Tawny
You indeed left paw prints on all
our hearts. So much a part of
our lives & will be missed forever.
You were such a fighter; gone
too soon.
We loved you so very much. We
will never forget our “Tawnygirl”.
-Joan, Jim & Arlene
40. Aurora
“Death leaves a heartache no
one can heal;
Love leaves a memory no one
can steal.”
41. Cisco & Charo
To my sweet Cisco and Charo, you graced my life with your love and
precious spirits. Thank you for teaching me to live fully in the moment,
no matter what life may bring. Your paw prints are forever on my heart.
42. Haru
He was my son and my love for 15 years.
He was too smart as he understood three
languages and didn’t need a leash.
Even on the last day, he was waiting for me
at the door.
I miss you so much. I don’t know when I can
recover from the loss.
43. Scrappy
My dear sweet Scrappy,
The sweetest pup in the world - I am
so lucky to have shared 14 years with
you - my best friend - my pup - you
are always in my thoughts - in my
heart forever.
I love you and miss you,
xoxoxo mommy
46. Danny
Danny (I called him Dano)
passed away on April 24, 2012
at the age of 12.
He loved to eat and sleep and
was the strong and silent type.
47. Gloria
This is Danny's sister Gloria and she
passed away on August 9, 2018 at
the age of 18.
She loved to play, eat and watch the
birds sitting on the window sills.
I miss them both immensely.
48. Jake
One of my favorite Jake memories.
Jake greeting me at the door with an
excited wiggle butt and proudly
bringing me his stuffed chicken.
Jake's favorite memory: stealing
Grandpa's donuts.
8/2007 – 8/19/2018
49. Sol
I will take you with me
wherever I go until we meet
again.
I love you my guardian
angel.
50. Claude
Dubbed the Mayor of 1st Avenue by his many fans in the
neighborhood, he was an extraordinary character – lots of
swagger, a healthy dose of attitude and full of boundless
love for most any human.
Dogs, he could take or leave for the most part, unless
they were puppies, which he loved to play with, exercising
great restraint seasoned with exemplary gentleness.
Claude was my best friend, my closest family, my boon
companion, my little love, who generated a smile on the
face of everyone he encountered.
Now to honor him, I am endeavoring to be a better
human, one worthy of my Claude.
51. MiaMing
Born in 2004, Mia was our baby girl for 13½ years.
Mia was very adventurous, my husband and I brought
her everywhere we went.
Mia was a service animal, she was our companion when
we needed comfort.
Many say that a dog look at humans as their whole life,
that can't be further from the truth- Mia looked at us as
her mommy and daddy.
Mia meant the world to us, and I know she is looking at
us from heaven with pride.
52. Albie
Albie was a much loved 17 year
old orange tabby cat.
I work from home and he had
been by my side his entire life.
I just lost him August 31.
54. Tosca
Tosca was a sweet bunny and companion to me
and my late father. She was also a wonderful
therapy bunny! Tosca was a lifelong patient of
AMC under the care of Dr. Quesenberry.
One day in 2003 I read an article in the AMC
newsletter about their Pet Outreach program in
pet therapy and I immediately knew Tosca would
be perfect for it - and I was right.
From 2003 until 2011 Tosca brought joy to people
in nursing homes, residences for the elderly,
service programs for the blind and older adults,
and everywhere she went.
11/1/2000 – 2/21/2013
55. Roxy
My beloved brown & blue eyed girl Roxy, I miss
you dearly.
I will forever cherish our times together and
promise to keep you memory alive.
So much love in this little bundle of joy, a
testament that big things do come in small
packages.
Roxy was a gentle soul, a dear companion, & a
best friend a guy could ever have.
What I would give to get one more embrace &
one last kiss, "I Wuv You Woxy".
56. Baron & TC
Both Baron and TC were patients of the
AMC.
K9 Baron worked 9/1994 - 3/2002,
passing 8/17/2004.
TC worked 9/06/2001 - 5/30/2012,
passing 12/26/2013.
Both dogs worked during the 9/11
search/recovery period.
Police K9s are more than just pets and
although the passing of all pets are difficult,
when ours pass it’s just a little bit harder
being that we're with them 24 hours a day.
57. Maya Papaya
Maya Papaya, the best friend anyone
could ever ask for.
She was a brilliant comedian, Mensa
genius (really!) and would let mommy put
a mini sombrero on her for Cinco de
Mayo.
The love of my life, forever...
58. Taffy
Taffy lived 16 happy years
because of the matchlessly
expert, caring treatment she was
given by Dr. Dennis Slade and Dr.
Leilani Alvarez.
59. Hattie
For 2 short years Hattie completely
changed everything I knew about life and
love.
She was determined to do whatever she
wanted and demanded multiple meals a
day.
Her body gave up, but her spirit never did.
Hattie lives on in those who loved her,
learned from her, and continue to be
inspired by her.
60. Riley
We miss your barking, your begging, your
gluttony, your silliness and your irrational
exuberance.
We miss your kisses, your snuggles, your
faithfulness, your companionship and your
love.
We miss our sweet little boy so very much.
You gave us the meaning of life and you will
always be in our hearts.
We love you.
65. Dollie
In your life and after, you have
taught us about love, joy, and
freedom. We cherish your memory.
Thank you for being an
extraordinary gift in our lives.
You remain in our hearts, always,
-Mommy, Daddy, and Gracie
11/3/2004 – 4/5/2018
66. Faith
Faith was an adorable little 7 week old calico when
I adopted her, and a chatterbox from day one,
having lots to say as I got ready for work, and
always enjoyed laying with me as I worked.
She was absolutely beautiful, a scaredy cat, &
devoted little sister to P.K., who she loved and
missed so much after he passed away. She then
became a loving big sister to her little brother
Nunzio when we adopted him.
Nunzio and I miss our Faithie so much, but I know
she is with her big brother P.K., watching over us
and Nunzio’s new little sister, Emma.
5/14/2007 –
3/23/2018
67. P.K.
P.K. went from a 7 week old fluffy, grey,
adorable kitten to a distinguished Nebelung
with a feather duster tail. He was my handsome
boy, with an “I’m the man of this house”
attitude.
He loved to snuggle and always looked out for
his little sister Faith. I didn’t need an alarm clock
with P.K. because he would climb on top of my
stomach each morning & sniff my eyelids until I
woke up.
I miss my sweet boy every day, but I am
comforted knowing that P.K. is now reunited
with his Faith, watching over us.
9/15/1999 – 12/29/2014
68. Oliver
Together for 19¾ years, Oliver
has left me with the best
memories of love and
happiness in my life!
Miss him everyday.
69. Ziggy Marley
She loved carrots, heirloom tomatoes,
and to eat around the outside of a
cucumber slice.
All 2.2lbs of her were dearly loved.
August 27, 2017
70. Tipper
You are now my pillow,
Near me still,
Your love never gone,
My sweet Tipper,
My protector,
Forever in my dreams.
71. Taz
Missing you like crazy "Taz"!!!
You loved me unconditionally.
Everybody misses you, R.I.P.
72. Boo Boo
Boo Boo was feisty and funny, smart and sweet
and was my best little buddy. She was sweet with
other dogs and people too.
I know she loved our early morning walks off-
leash through Central Park which we did almost
every day, and she also loved the beach in Fire
Island where we went for a few weeks every
summer of her life. She loved to snuggle and play
and chase squirrels and get cookies.
Dogs are the best and it’s only sad that their lives
are so much shorter than ours.
I love you Boo Boo, to the moon and back, and I
always will.
10/4/2003 – 8/18/2018
73. Ellie
Ellie, our brave little girl.
We miss you so much and love you
beyond words.
Mommy and Daddy carry you in
our hearts always and forever.
74. Max
My Dear Max,
You watched our family grow over the
years and there’s a huge hole since you
left that we can only fill with memories
and thoughts of you.
We miss the belly rubs, walks, your
constant presence and even your barks
and grumpy-ness.
We love and miss you so much.
2006 – 2018
75. Lilliana Sweet and adorable Lilliana, our much loved
Tibetan Spaniel, lived to be one month shy of her
17th birthday, having joined our family in August of
2001 at three months old.
She was a sassy, spunky little delight with a sparkle
in her beautiful big, dark eyes.
Sometimes frisky, sometimes zen and mellow,
especially in her later years, she charmed
absolutely everyone.
Independent and opinionated, she chose her
closest dog friends carefully, but was loyal to the
core.
Lily carved a special place for herself in our family,
is deeply missed and is truly irreplaceable.
77. Mambo
We miss you so much. We miss you having you
around us all the time making us happy even in
our worst moments. You changed us forever,
thanks to you we are now better human beings.
We know you are in heaven watching over us and
that one day we will see you again and call you
“our baby lindo” as we always did.
You will always be our only baby
-Roly and Ed
78. Pepe
My dearest son, my Pepe,
I miss you every minute, miss gazing into
your eyes pure of love, you to tell me who is
good and who is bad, your head sticking out
of my jacket, watching you eat with an
expression of a food critic, I miss you
prancing amongst flowers & fireflies, your
gentleness to all creatures, your patience,
your unconditional love, I miss calling you
your thousand nicknames, but I somehow
missed until the end that it was you who was
watching over me, not the other way around.
My little angel! May God always watch over
you. Until we meet again my everything! My
one true love.
79. Kibbles
Kibbles, my beloved, adored Pomeranian, one
week into her 9th birthday.
Her effervescent smile and happiness brought
joy to my life everyday. She was deeply loved.
My heart is broken, my love everlasting.
The phenomenal care of the AMC's ICU is with
gratitude.
Kibbles lit up the room wherever she went as will
my heart always.
80. Snip
He was one in a million- smart
funny and put the terror in
terrier!
We miss him every day xoxo
81. Sam
Sam lived to be 13.
Sam was a rejected Seeing Eye Dog
(rejected because he "lacked self
confidence.“ What he had plenty of
was heart.
He was the Will Rogers of dogs -
never met a human he didn't like.
82. Takoda
Takoda "friend to all people" Sioux, was a
gentle giant kitty who touched so many
human and animals lives with love and fun
moments.
He passed away after a short illness at AMC
and the compassionate doctors showed only
love and care.
Thanks for the love shown us his last days.
-Joanie Aydin and Tobias
83. Nona
Nona made me laugh every day
of her almost 16 years.
We were a great team and I miss
her dearly.
84. Charlotte
In honor of the sweet, stubborn,
brilliant and hilarious Charlotte.
With gratitude for the love, science
and artistry of Dr. Trafny, who saved
her life (twice), Dr. Alvarez, who took
her from limping to sprinting, Dr.
Brausa, Dr. Wiley, and the Rehab
Team.
85. Tallulah
Beautiful Lady & true
companion, who turned a cat
snob into a dog lover!
I miss you everyday.
86. Mickey
Mickey was the most beautiful
spirit I’ve ever had the honor to
get to know.
Every day with him was a
blessing and I continue to be
blessed by his memory.
87. Chester
Beauty boy, my best friend.
So proud, lucky to be your person, be with, care
for you, have that joy, love, fun every day- beyond
my imagining.
Wonder of nature, I was always astounded by your
eyes, beauty, your size! Kids asked, “Is that a wolf,
bear, fox?”
Gentle giant, had to say hello to everybody, in the
street, nursing home.
Dr. Camps said, "So gentle, strong, handsome,”
and goofy, affectionate, father to your toys, and
learned your own lessons as you grew.
No words describe how I love and miss you. What
I would give for you to lick my face.
88. Rex (Regulus)
Thinking of little Rex (Regulus) on
The Rainbow Bridge and grateful
for the 9 months we got to spend
with him.
He was a wonderful and sweet
kitten who we lost too soon to FIP
last April 2017.
90. Seven
Here's a happy Seven!! This
might've been the closest he could
get to Seventh Heaven (he was
named Seven because he put us in
Seventh Heaven). And now he's
there himself, running and climbing
and swimming to his heart's
content.
Love you and miss you, our
beautiful Seven.
91. Ariane
Ariane lived in Paris and when I went
to visit family there years ago, she
welcomed me with open paws.
She passed away about a year ago
and I miss her dearly everyday.
92. Chico
My heart and soul dog. Run free
with the angels my beautiful boy. I
could not have loved you more.
Thank you for being the best dog
ever. Thank you for rescuing me.
RIP with the angels my precious
Chico. I miss you every second of
every day. You will always be loved.
12/12/01- 06/15/18.

part of one’s soul remains
unawakened.”
