4. What Ever the Addictive Behavior Is
• It is not the behavior but the lie behind it.
We are destroying speculations and every lofty thing raised up
against the knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought
captive to the obedience of Christ, 2 Corinthians 10:5
The LORD knows the thoughts of man, That they are a mere breath.

• God knows our thoughts are futile, but do we? Or are we still
trying to figure it out???

5. Deceptive Thoughts and Lies Keep Us In Bondage
• Truth sets us free and Lies keep us in bondage.
It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing
firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery (to the law).
Galatians 5:1
• Most programs are law-based (what to do and not do) BUT if you
depend on any program instead of Jesus you are under the law
and bondage.

6. The Power of Sin is the Law
And the Law Arouses Sin.
The Sting of Death is sin and the power of sin is the law.

8. The Basis for Temptation
• Is our desire to meet legitimate needs which only Jesus can meet.
• The source of our addiction are only the objects of our temptation.
• It is to believe that we need it to be
somebody, succeed, cope, deal with stress and pressure, find
comfort and/or survive.
• We need Jesus. - Only He can meet our needs. He is all we need.
• We are complete in Jesus.

9. Deception = Bondage
• If we believe we need something besides Jesus.
• We are deceived and in bondage even if its good things – Family –
Spouse – Ministry – Job…
• Freedom is when we believe we have everything we need for life
and Godliness.
• We are complete in Jesus Christ and you can’t get anymore
complete than that.

10. Understanding the Problem

The World offers a way to cope, but not to change.
The world offers restraints (LAW), but no true freedom.
It doesn't offer freedom from our past.
Freedom is not part of the world’s solution.
Only Jesus Is!

11. Most Programs are Fear Based
• If you don’t stop drinking, drugging you will be
imprisoned, institutionalized or die.
Fear involves Punishment… (1John 4:18)
• They live in fear that the hammer of god will fall on them,
• But the hammer has fallen on Jesus and there is no more
guilt, condemnation, shame or punishment.

12. What’s Wrong With The 12 Steps?
Absolutely nothing, except they won’t set you free.
What do the 12 steps leave out that is essential?
• The parson of Jesus and the Work of Jesus.
• Forgiveness, Identity, Grace, Faith and the Holy Spirit.
• Unconditional love and an answer for guilt.
• Our position in Christ and the defeat of sin and the Devil.
• The Word of God, Spiritual Warfare and Prayer.
• Our co-crucifixion to the world and flesh, freeing us from it.
• And Jesus in you and you in Jesus, ~Jesus is our LIFE.~

13. Have we Bought the Lie?
• The Lie is that addiction is so hard to get free from that
we need something more than what Jesus has
accomplished with His finished work on the Cross.
• That lie is the bases of most programs, even many
Christian programs based on the “12 steps” that focus on
what you have to do and not what Jesus has done.

The door to freedom is not locked. It was opened wide when Jesus
died on the Cross and we died with him.

• And God won’t or can’t set you free.
• Satan, the world and the flesh say you are an addict and worthless
in God’s sight.
• You must do what you can to cope or be set free.
• These are the lies that will keep you in bondage and most people
believe them.

If we understand what happened at the cross, it will be the answer to all our
problems and our needs. Freedom, peace, joy and victory has been provided
