This document provides an overview of fine art by summarizing key works and quotes from various artists. It introduces modern and contemporary art movements that questioned traditional representations and examined the nature of art itself. Works mentioned include Picasso's "Ma jolie", Magritte's "This is not a Pipe", Duchamp's "The Fountain", and pieces by Joseph Kosuth, Donald Judd, On Kawara, Kazimir Malevich, Robert Ryman, Andy Goldsworthy, and Richard Long. Quotes offer insights into how art can change perspectives, its spiritual nature, and using it to explore reality.
In this class we make a distinction between form and content (or what in visual culture we often call "subject matter") and begin the process of exploring the language of form.
