DIAGNOSIS
MAS GRADE# 3:
Meconium aspiration syndrome happens when a baby is stressed and gasps while still in the
womb, or soon after delivery when taking those first breaths of air. When gasping, a baby may
inhale amniotic fluid and any meconium in it. It usually occur when the fetus is tressed during
labour
MAS GRADE 3:
Meconium aspiration syndrome happens when a baby is stressed and gasps while
still in the womb, or soon after delivery when taking those first breaths of air.
When gasping, a baby may inhale amniotic fluid and any meconium in it. It usually
occur when the fetus is tressed during labour.
It can be treated by oxygen therapy to make sure there is enough oxygen in the
blood. the use of a radiant warmer to help your baby maintain body temperature.
the use of a ventilator (a breathing machine) to help your infant breathe.
Antibiotics like ampicillin and gentamicin can also be given depending upon the
severity.
RESPIRATORY DISTRESS SYNDROME:
Neonatal RDS occurs in infants whose lungs have not yet fully developed. The
disease is mainly caused by a lack of a slippery substance in the lungs called
surfactant. This substance helps the lungs fill with air and keeps the air sacs from
deflating. Some newborns who have RDS recover and never get BPD. Due to better
treatments and medical advances, most newborns who have RDS survive. However,
these babies may need extra medical care after going home.
PNEUMONIA:
In Infants, most cases of pneumonia follow a viral
upper respiratory tract infection. Pneumonia also
can be caused by bacterial infections. Also, if a
viral infection has irritated the airway enough or
weakened a child's immune system, bacteria may
begin to grow in the lung, adding a second
infection to the original one.
TREATMENT
• Cefotaxime 500 mg
(Dose :110 mg IV BD)
• Amikacin 250 mg
(Dose: 16 mg IV BD)
• Inj 7.6% D/S 200 ml in 24
hrs
