A 46-year-old female presents with ankle pain in both ankles but more severe in the right after hearing a pop while playing soccer. She is able to bear weight but it is uncomfortable. The doctor will perform a physical exam of the ankles including special maneuvers to assess ligaments and joints to determine if there is a sprain or fracture. Differential diagnoses could include sprain, fracture, or tendon injury based on the mechanism of injury and Ottawa ankle rules will determine if additional testing is needed.
