This document outlines four features of a strong arrangement for essays: 1) developing the thesis, 2) being logically progressive and building to a climax, 3) using transitional words and phrases, and 4) devoting most space to original, interesting, and/or controversial ideas without straying. It also provides examples of climactic sequences such as moving from simple to complex or cause to effect.
