Carmelo Torres is a renowned accordion player and composer from Colombia considered one of the main figures in cumbia sabanera music. He comes from San Jacinto, in the Caribbean region of Colombia, where he was influenced by the traditional flute styles. Torres still performs the rural accordion music of his homeland while also collaborating with more experimental groups. The record label Sonidos Enraizados promotes Torres' traditional cumbia style alongside contemporary fusion sounds that explore the past to create new music.
