This document is a dissertation on credit/debit/cash card fraud and prevention. It provides an executive summary that overviews the growth of the plastic payment card market and sources of value added, including security. It then outlines the contents sections which will cover the history and types of plastic cards, vulnerable points and fraud increases, prevention methods, adding value through security, and conclusions. Fraud primarily occurs at the point of sale but merchants cover only 1/3 of damages while issuers cover the remaining 2/3, putting issuers at greater risk. Innovation is needed to develop security technologies and combat increasing fraud.
