2. CANTIGAS
- They are 420 poems written in the Medieval Galician language during the reign
of ‘Alfonso X el Sabio’ (1221-1284) In every song it is mention the Virgin Mary
while every tenth song is a hymn.
- The cantigas that have survived in four manuscripts are conserved in El
Escorial, at Madrid's National Library and in Florence, Italy. The manuscript at
the Escorial has 122 cantigas.
3. INSTRUMENTS IN THE CANTIGAS
String instruments:
-Arpa,cítara, cítolas, guitarra Latina,
baldosas,Guitarras, laúdes, Rabel y salterio,
Salterio, rota, salterio, vihuela de arco, vihuelas de
peñola, zanfoña
Percussion instruments:
-Carrillón diatónico, Carrillón con martillo, címbalos,
tamboriles y flautas, tejoletas y chirimía, albogón y
darbuka.
Wind instruments:
-Chirimías, órgano portativo y cornetas,
albogues,caramillo y alboque o chirimía vasca,
cornetas, chirimías, flautas travesera, gaita.
