Canberra is the capital city of Australia. It was planned and designed based on principles of the garden city movement. The growth of Canberra was slowed by World Wars and the Great Depression. Canberra has a population organized into several districts including Central Canberra, Woden Valley, Belconnen, Weston Creek, Tuggeranong, and Gungahlin. The area was originally inhabited by Aboriginal tribes and was first explored by Europeans in the 1820s.
